Neutron- and proton-induced cross-section data are required in a wide energy range beyond 20 MeV, for the design of accelerator applications. New evaluations are performed with recent knowledge in the optical and pre-equilibrium model calculations. We also evaluated cross-sections for p+$$^{6,7}$$Li and p+$$^{9}$$Be which have been highly requested from a medical field. The present high-energy nuclear data library, JENDL-4.0/HE, includes evaluated cross-sections for incident neutrons and protons up to 200 MeV (for about 130 nuclei). We overview substantial features of the library, i.e., (1) systematic evaluation with CCONE code, (2) challenges for evaluations of light nuclei and (3) inheritance of JENDL-4.0 and JENDL/HE-2007. In this talk, we also focus on the results of benchmark calculation for neutronics to show performance of the present library.

Master curve (MC) approach for the fracture toughness evaluation is expected to be a powerful tool to assess the structural integrity of reactor pressure vessels (RPVs). In order to get sufficient number of reliable data for the MC approach from broken halves of surveillance test specimens for RPVs, the use of miniature specimens is necessary. For this purpose, a round robin test program on the miniature compact tension specimens (Mini-CT) of 4 mm thick for the MC approach of a Japanese RPV steel has been launched with the participation of academia, industries and a research institute in Japan. The program aims to verify the reliability of experimental data from Mini-CT, and to pick out further investigation items to be solved. As the first step of this program, four institutes carried out MC testing and evaluation using common test procedure and specimens. Valid reference temperature T$$_{0}$$ was successfully obtained in each institute. However, the T$$_{0}$$ values showed large differences with maximum of 34$$^{circ}$$C. It was indicated on the reason of difference that there is a strong correlation between the T$$_{0}$$ values and loading rate, which was selected by each institute per test standard.

This technical note summarizes research activities on nuclear data carried out by Japanese Nuclear Data Committee (JNDC) during the fiscal years of 2003 and 2004. During this period, the nuclear data files for special purposes (JENDL-HE-2004 and JENDL-PD-2004) were released. Other activities are described: analysis of post nuclear fuel irradiation experiments, nuclear chart and nuclear data evaluation for astrophysics.

An overview is presented of recent nuclear data evaluations performed for the JENDL high-energy (JENDL-HE) file, in which neutron and proton cross sections for energies up to 3 GeV are included for the whole 132 nuclides. The current version of the JENDL-HE file consists of neutron total cross sections, nucleon elastic scattering cross sections and angular distributions, nonelastic cross sections, production cross sections and double-differential cross sections of secondary light particles (${it n, p, d, t,}$ $$^{3}$$He, $$alpha$$, and $$pi$$) and $$gamma$$-rays, isotope production cross sections, and fission cross sections in the ENDF6 format. The present evaluations are performed on the basis of experimental data and theoretical model calculations. For the cross section calculations, we have constructed a hybrid calculation code system with some available nuclear model codes and systematics-based codes, such as ECIS96, OPTMAN, GNASH, JQMD, JAM, TOTELA, FISCAL, and so on. The evaluated cross sections are compared with available experimental data and the other evaluations. Future plans of our JENDL-HE project are discussed along with prospective needs of high-energy cross section data.

Evaluation for JENDL-3.3 has been performed by considering the accumulated feedback information and various benchmark tests of the previous library JENDL-3.2. The major problems of the JENDL-3.2 data were solved by the new library: overestimation of criticality values for thermal fission reactors was improved by the modifications of fission cross sections and fission neutron spectra for $$^{235}$$U; incorrect energy distributions of secondary neutrons from important heavy nuclides were replaced with statistical model calculations; the inconsistency between elemental and isotopic evaluations was removed for medium-heavy nuclides. Moreover, covariance data were provided for 20 nuclides. The reliability of JENDL-3.3 was investigated by the benchmark analyses on reactor and shielding performances. The results of the analyses indicate that JENDL-3.3 predicts various reactor and shielding characteristics better than JENDL-3.2.
