In this work, the internal transition decay and decay of the 53.3-ms isomeric state in Tl were studied at ISOLDE, CERN. The branching for the internal decay was measured to be 98.5(4)%, while the much weaker decay branching is only about 1.4(4)%. The new results include the first identification of an transition feeding the 3/2 excited state in Tl. Three decays from the Tl isomer were also oserved, and revealed the population of a candidate 9/2 state in Au which has been linked to shape coexistence in the Au nuclei. It is expected that similarly weak decays from isomeric states may be found also in neighbouring Tl isotopes.

The production-efficiency dependence on the half-life was derived using the in-target production calculations. Three release models were tested to describe the results. Irregularities in the efficiency curve for 3 long-lived high-spin gold isomers (Au) were found, which require further investigation.

被引用回数:23 パーセンタイル:90.14(Physics, Multidisciplinary)The changes in the mean-square charge radius (relative to Bi, magnetic moments and quadrupole moments of the neutron-deficient bismuth isotopes Bi were measured at ISOLDE (CERN). In the experiment, the in-source resonance-ionization spectroscopy technique was employed, which permits to study isotopes produced with rates as low as 0.1/sec. The radii of Bi manifest a large staggering, corresponding to a sudden increase of the radius of Bi relative to its Bi neighbors. This staggering effect occurs at neutron number =105, where shape staggering was also observed in the mercury isotopes. Experimental results were compared with state-of-the-art mean-field calculations, which permit to identify the quasiparticle configurations compatible with the observed spin, parity and magnetic moment of the newly observed states.

Its decay had been observed, but the assumed ground-state lifetime (s) was incorrect, leading to unexplained hindrance. With two new experiments at Argonne National Laboratory, two states were clearly identified. One is the proton-emitting ground-state (spin 1/2, half-life: 2.8 s), the second is a 58(2) s -decaying isomer. The new data show the inversion of the ground and isomeric states compared to neighboring Bi isotopes. This is the only known example of a ground-state proton decay to a daughter nucleus (Pb) with a major shell closure.

The presented level scheme contains 27 new excited states and 43 new transitions, as well as a further 50 previously observed rays which have been (re)assigned a position. Through the analysis using the shell model calculations approximately half of the -decay strength of At is found to proceed via allowed decay and half via first-forbidden decay. The first-forbidden transitions predominantly populate core excited states at high excitation energies, which is qualitatively understood using shell model considerations.

Two long-lived states in Au were identified - a low-spin ground state and a high-spin isomer - each of which were produced as pure beams. Using the ISOLTRAP precision Penning trap, the excitation energy of the isomeric state in Au was determined to be 189(14) keV. The -decay fine structure patterns of the two states were studied using the Windmill decay station, providing information on the low-lying states in the daughter nucleus Ir. Nuclear spin assignments of Au and Au are made based on the observed -decay feeding and hyperfine structure intensity patterns.

By using isomer tagging, an isomeric state with a half-life of 6.58(15) s has been observed in Ir for the first time. It has been established that the isomer decays via a 45.2 () - 26.1 () keV cascade to new states below the previously reported ground state in Ir with . We now reassign this state to the isomeric state discovered in this study.

Magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments, and changes in the nuclear mean-square charge radii, have been deduced. A large inverse odd-even staggering in radii, which may be associated with the presence of octupole collectivity, has been observed. Namely, the radius of the odd-odd isotope At has been found to be larger than the average.

被引用回数:21 パーセンタイル:84.76(Astronomy & Astrophysics)The first accurate measurements of the -decay branching ratio and half-life of the I=1/2 ground state in Tl have been made, along with the first determination of the magnetic moments and I=1/2 spin assignments of the ground states in Au. The results are discussed within the complementary systematics of the reduced -decay widths and nuclear g factors of low-lying, I=1/2states in the neutron-deficient lead region. The findings shed light on the unexpected hindrance of the 1/2 1/2, Tl Au decay, which is explained by a mixing of 3sand 2d configurations in Au, whilst Tl remains a near-pure 3s. This conclusion is inferred from the g factor of Au which has an intermediate value between those of 3s and 2d states. A similar mixed configuration is proposed for the I=1/2 ground state of Au. This mixing may provide evidence for triaxial shapes in the ground states in these nuclei.
