The compacted bentonite is exposed to high temperature in the repositories of high-level radioactive waste (HLW) due to the heat generated by the decay of radionuclides. The retention properties of bentonite might be altered by the exposure to high temperature. In this study, sorption and diffusion experiments were performed on the MX-80 bentonite material originating from Alternative Buffer Material (ABM) project, which had been exposed to temperatures up to 140C for 2 years.

原位置で処分環境を模擬した条件で約1年間140Cで加熱したMX-80と、加熱していないMX-80に対して収着・拡散試験を実施し、試験結果を比較した。その結果、両ベントナイトの収着分配係数,実効拡散係数等に大きな違いは見られず、長期間の加熱によるMX-80の収着・拡散特性の変化は認められなかった。
