Uranium handling facility for development of nuclear fuel manufacturing equipment (Mockup room) was constructed in 1972. The Mockup room has a weak seismic resistance and is deteriorating with age. Also, the original purpose with this facility have been achieved and there are no new development plans using this facility. Therefore, interior equipment installed in this facility had been dismantled and removed since March 2019. After that, the Mockup room was inspected for contamination, and then controlled area in the Mockup room was cancelled on March 29th 2022. A total of 6,549 workers (not including security witnesses) were required for this work. The amount of non-radioactive waste generated by this work was 31,300 kg. The amount of radioactive waste generated by this work was 3,734 kg of combustible waste (103 drums), 4,393 kg of flame resistance waste (61 drums), 37,790 kg of non-combustible waste (124 drums, 19 containers). This report describes about the dismantling and removing the interior equipment in the Mockup room, the amount of waste generated by this work, and procedure for cancellation the controlled area in the facility.

Recent progress in X-ray laser research in Japan Atomic Energy Agency is reviewed. Using the nickel-like silver soft X-ray laser at the wavelength of 13.9 nm, the application experiments have been conducted in the research fields such as material science, high-density plasma diagnostics, XRL ablation, XRL imaging using single-shot holography and atomic physics. The repetition rate of the XRL beam has been improved from each 10-20 minutes to 0.1 Hz by using new driver laser system with Nd: glass zigzag slab amplifier, and we are now constructing new beam line for the pump-probe measurement of the surface phase-transition by the method of X-ray laser interferometer. In the research activity on the extension of the wavelength region of the X-ray lasers, firstly, the demonstration of novel coherent X-ray generation by "flying mirror" technique is reported. The second is theoretical investigation of the resonance photo-pumping scheme toward water-window region.

Bi-Zn system has a phase diagram with a miscibility gap where critical point is at BiZn
. It is known that concentration fluctuation increases on approaching to the miscibility gap. Earlier studies suggested that the miscibility gap is attributed to difference in atomic size between Bi and Zn. Recent developments of instrument and analysis technique enable us to deduce partial structures and demonstrate atomic configurations in liquid. We performed detailed analysis on medium-range structure in liquid Bi
Zn
by using neutron diffraction data obtained by the two-axis diffractometer, HERMES, installed in JRR-3M, JAEA and, X-ray diffraction at BL08W beamline in SPring-8, Hyogo, Japan. 3D atomic structural model obtained by Revere Monte Carlo technique exhibits temperature evolution of concentration fluctuations in medium-range structure, which suggests that phase separation tendency appears even in the edge of the miscibility gap of liquid Bi-Zn.
