In this paper, we studied the crystal structure and phonon dynamics of tetrahedrites (Cu,Zn)(Sb,As)S. The results revealed that the Cu atoms in a planar coordination are rattling, which effectively scatter phonons. These findings provide a new strategy for the development of highly efficient thermoelectric materials with planar coordination.

A new single crystal time-of-flight neutron diffractometer has been installed at BL18 of the Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility of J-PARC. The diffractometer "SENJU" was designed for precise crystal and magnetic structure analyses using a small crystal less than 1.0 mm under multiple extreme environments such as low-temperature and high-magnetic field. The first neutron beam was delivered to the sample position on March 5, 2012. Subsequently, the hardware and software of SENJU have been checked and confirmed that they worked fine. At the same time, diffraction experiments of several organic and inorganic crystals have been done using NaCl, C12A7, and so on. In these measurements, Bragg reflections in the high-Q region (d-spacing 0.5 ) were clearly observed and analyzed successfully. In this presentation, we will show the instrument design and performance evaluation of SENJU in detail.

In this system, a sophisticated human model, a precise accelerator head model, and a Monte Carlo calculation will be utilized to perform realistic simulation. The dose distribution is calculated by this system on the ITBL computer at the dose calculation center, and the related data are transferred through a network. This system is intended to support the quality assurance of current treatments carried out in Japan. Further, this system is planned to apply to advanced radiotherapy. The project started on November 2003 and is scheduled to continue for five years. Prototypes of some parts constituting the system have been already developed, and the fundamental features on the radiation fields have been investigated. On the basis of the fundamental investigation, the final system will be designed and constructed.

A new single crystal diffractometer SENJU is currently under construction in the MLF BL18 at J-PARC. SENJU is designed to collect diffraction data by use of a laboratory XRD specimen size, and aimed for a precise structure analysis under combined environmental conditions. Very wide variety of experiments will be performed, such as low-temperature, under magnetic field, high pressure, and so on. As for the most important component, detector system, is improved and optimized version of that of the iBIX system which is currently working well. The construction of SENJU will be completed in March 2011, and the instrument will be received the first neutron before summer maintenance period of 2011.

A new single crystal neutron diffractometer SENJU is now under construction at a high pace in MLF at J-PARC. SENJU will realize precise structure analysis under the combined extreme conditions such as high-magnetic field and low temperature. The construction will be completed at the end of 2010 fiscal year, and has aimed at the first beam acceptance before the summer of 2011. In the presentation, detailed instrument specs will be introduced, and a concrete sample environment etc. will be described.
