The disposal of radioactive waste from the research facility need to calculate from the radioactivity concentration that based on variously nuclear fuels and materials. In Japan Atomic Energy Agency Oarai Research and Development Institute, the study on considering disposal is being advanced among the facilities which generate radioactive waste as well as the facilities which process radioactive waste. This report summarizes a study result in FY2020 about the evaluation method to determine the radioactivity concentration in radioactive waste on Oarai Research and Development Institute.

Transverse momentum distributions and yields for $$pi^{pm}, K^{pm}, p$$, and $$bar{p}$$ in $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 and 62.4 GeV at midrapidity are measured by the PHENIX experiment at the RHIC. We present the inverse slope parameter, mean transverse momentum, and yield per unit rapidity at each energy, and compare them to other measurements at different $$sqrt{s}$$ collisions. We also present the scaling properties such as $$m_T$$ and $$x_T$$ scaling and discuss the mechanism of the particle production in $$p + p$$ collisions. The measured spectra are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.

Thermal expansion of type A carbonate apatite

The thermal expansion and crystal structure of A-type carbonate apatite with the monoclinic symmetry was investigated using the neutron powder diffraction at room temperature, 200, 300, 400 and 500$$^{circ}$$C. The ${it a}$-axis and ${it c}$-axis lattice parameters were 0.9568 and 0.6868 nm at room temperature, and those were linearly increased with the increase of temperature. It was found that the linear thermal expansion coefficient of ${it a}$-axis was 1.31$$times$$10$$^{-5}$$/$$^{circ}$$C and ${it c}$-axis 8.07$$times$$10$$^{-6}$$/$$^{circ}$$C.

Hydroxyapatite is the main inorganic component of bone and tooth minerals, in which CO$$_{3}$$ ions partially substitute for OH and/or PO$$_{4}$$ ions. In this study, high purity type A carbonate apatite, Ca$$_{9.89}$$(PO$$_{4}$$)$$_{5.99}$$(CO$$_{3}$$)$$_{0.90}$$ powder completely substituted by carbonate ions were synthesized by a treatment of low crystalline hydroxyapatite powder, Ca$$_{9.89}$$(PO$$_{4}$$)$$_{5.99}$$(OH)$$_{1.80}$$) in a dry CO$$_{2}$$ flow at 1000 $$^{circ}$$C. The crystal structure of the sample was the monoclinic symmetry with space group of ${it Pb}$ and the lattice parameters, ${it a}$ = 0.9566 (1), ${it b}$ = 1.9063 (2), ${it c}$ = 0.6867 (1) nm and $$gamma$$ =119.84 (1)$$^{circ}$$, which was refined by a Rietveld method with neutron diffraction data.

Japanese tokamak and spherical tokamak (ST) research programs are described. Tokamak research will focus on steady state high($$beta$$$$_{N}$$ = 3.5-5.5) research on JT-60SA (formerly NCT) in support of ITER and DEMO. JT-60SA will also serve as the Satellite Tokamak under the JA-EU Broader Approach framework. ST research has been reorganized as the All-Japan ST Research Program, aiming for creative and innovative research focused on ultra-high and ultra-long pulse regimes. Results of plasma start-up, RF heating, and plasma merging reconnection experiments are summarized. Prospects of contribution of low aspect ratio tokamaks to fusion energy development, are presented.

This report has been written about the outline of the JT-60 related facility, the JT-60 gaseous waste treatment facility, radiation control equipments and a fundamental radiation control form, which are needed to carry out a radiation control by radiation control officer in Naka Fusion Research Establishment. Further, the following items has been arranged to tables; the low and in-house rules of a radiation protection to apply for the JT-60 facilities, specifications of the JT-60, main parameters and performance of the JT-60, a radiation generated by the JT-60 plasma discharge test, an permitted amount of radiation source and nuclear fuel, each performance of the radiation generators, specifications of the air exhaust facility and the radiation control facility. In addition, figures of the control area, system diagrams of the gaseous waste treatment facility and radiation control monitors are attached.

Intravascular brachytherapy is a novel therapy for preventing the restenosis of coronary artery by use of low-dose irradiation. JAERI and Kyoto University have been developing $$^{192}$$Ir radiation sources by the cooperative research project entitled as "The research on safety and effectiveness of the intravascular brachytherapy for preventing restenosis of the coronary artery disease" since 1998. The radiation source was introduced into the stenosis through a catheter (a guide-tube to insert directly into vascular) to irradiate the diseased part. Ten $$^{192}$$Ir seed sources ($$phi$$0.4 mm $$times$$ 2.5 mm) were positioned between nylon spacers ($$phi$$0.3 mm $$times$$ 1.0 mm) in a flexible covering tube and the tube was plugged with a core-wire; the tube was shrunk to fix the inside materials and the size is 0.46 mm in diameter and 3 m in length. The physically optimal design was determined to insert the radiation source easily into vascular and to get the dose uniformity in the diseased part. The production method of the radiation source, which is practical to use in the clinics was also established.
