This borehole investigation was carried out to confirm the validity of the distribution of low flow areas deep underground estimated based on the geophysical survey in FY 2020, as a part of an R&D supporting program titled "Research and development on Groundwater Flow Evaluation Technology in Bedrock" under contract to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (2021, 2022 FY, Grant Number: JPJ007597). The borehole name is Horonobe Fossil seawater Boring-1 and is referred to as HFB-1 borehole. HFB-1 is a vertical borehole drilled adjacent to the Horonobe Underground Research Laboratory (URL), which was drilled from the surface to a depth of 200 m in FY2021 and from a depth of 200 m to 500 m in FY2022. This report summarizes information related to the drilling of HFB-1 and various data (rock core description, geophysical logging, chemical analysis, etc.) obtained from the borehole investigation.

The kicker system used for injection and extraction of accelerated beams requires a pulsed power supply with high speed and high repetition rate of short pulses acting only on a specified bunch of beams. We have developed a semiconductor switch power supply with a rated output of 40kV/2kA using SiC-MOSFETs, one of the next-generation power semiconductors. Then, we reconfigured this semiconductor switch power supply into two units with 20kV/2kA output and conducted energization tests using an actual kicker electromagnet. It was also demonstrated with magnetic field waveforms that the flat-top correction function of this power supply can suppress ringing in the waveform by less than half. This achievement enables the reduction of the kick angle difference caused by ringing, which is a factor in beam loss. In the presentation, specifications, test equipment, and evaluation results of the developed SiC semiconductor switch power supply will be reported.

At J-PARC, semiconductor short pulse power supplies to replace kicker power supplies and semiconductor long pulse power supplies to replace klystron power supply systems are under construction. We have fabricated a 40kV/2kA/1.2s unit power supply that employs a linear transformer drivers (LTD) system for kickers. Currently, we are working on a high voltage insulating cylinder insulator that suppresses corona discharges using only the insulator structure, without using insulating oil. In addition, the MARX system was adopted for klystron power supply system. A main circuit unit for 8kV/60A/830
s rectangular pulse output and an 800V/60A correction circuit unit that improves the flat top droop from 10% to 1% were manufactured. Furthermore, a 2.2kV/2.4kW high voltage SiC inverter charger has been fabricated for this MARX power supply. The presentation will report the evaluation results of each test and prospects for semiconductor pulse power supplies.

Kicker system is being used to kick the accelerated 3 GeV beam into the transport lines in RCS of J-PARC. The current kicker power supply applies thyratrons to discharge switches. We are developing a new kicker power supply using next-generation power semiconductors. The timing of the semiconductor switch operation is determined by the input of an external trigger signal. Large timing jitter causes unstable output pulses and beam loss due to beam orbit deviate from reference orbit. Therefore, a low jitter circuit that achieves high repeatability of 2 ns or less will be developed for the new kicker power supply. A prototype trigger generator has been fabricated, and jitter has been evaluated. The results of the evaluation test and the circuit configuration plan for reducing jitter will be reported.

To compare the solar modulation of primary cosmic rays in detail, we have to remove the possible seasonal variations caused by the atmosphere and surrounding environment. As such surrounding environment effects, we evaluate the snow cover effect on neutron count rate and the atmospheric temperature effect on muon count rate both simultaneously observed at Syowa Station in the Antarctic (69.01 S, 39.59
E). The corrected muon count rate starts decreasing in late 2019, earlier than the corrected neutron count rate which starts decreasing in early 2020, possibly indicating the rigidity dependent solar modulation in the heliosphere.

If a nuclear disaster occurs, we may evacuate indoor escape facilities and buildings such as houses as avoid extra exposure doses. In order to evaluate exposure doses, it is necessary to estimate shielding capabilities of the building materials constituting the sheltering facility. Therefore, photon irradiation tests with three kinds of photon energy were carried out for Japanese familiar building materials in Japan, and photon transmittance of each building material is acquired and summarized. As a result, it was found that the shielding capabilities of composite walls and roofs which are widely used in a tree structure and a steel structure were relatively low. And, difference of materials used for composite walls and roofs resulted in a difference in shielding capabilities. For example, in the case of composite walls, compared with the photon transmittance of wall with ceramic-based siding materials, those of wall with lightweight concrete were lower. Furthermore, photon transmittance was also measured for building materials with relatively low shielding performance added shielding materials as additional measures to enhance shielding capabilities.

At the accident of nuclear facilities, a prediction of behavior of released radioactive plume is indispensable for the decision of the refuge plan of inhabitants. Currently, prediction system which is based on atmospheric dispersion simulation has been implemented for as a tool of the atomic energy disaster prevention. However, direct measurement method of radioactive plume has not existed. In this study, some component technologies were developed for establishment of direct measurement methods of radioactive plume using unmanned aerial vehicle whose technological innovation is remarkable. In addition, algorism of making flight plan was developed based on prediction model of radioactive plume. This report summarized the outcome of the first year with plan of three years.

. Theoretical analysis shows us that the linear dichroism reflects the anisotropic charge distributions resulting from a crystalline electric field. We have successfully determined the ground-state 4
symmetry for both compounds from the polarization-dependent angle resolved core-level spectra at a temperature well below the first excitation energy. The excited-state symmetry is also probed by temperature dependence of the linear dichroism where the high measurement temperatures are on the order of the crystal-field-splitting energies.

The CGR tests of neutron irradiated Type 304 SS were conducted in BWR conditions and the results were compared with those of Type 304L and 316L SS, and following results were obtained. (1) The CGR increase with increasing neutron fluence and the power law of K on the CGR was observed above F2 neutron fluence level (1.4 dpa). The different tendency is observed between Type 304 SS and L-grade SS (Type 304L and 316L SS) with increasing neutron fluence above F3 (4.3 dpa) level. (2) The CGR of Type 304 SS is slightly small as compared with those of Type 304L and 316L SS at the same neutron fluence and shows an increasing tendency above 4 dpa and reaches to 1.010
m/s in 9 dpa. (3) The neutron fluence dependence on uniform elongation is different with Type 304, 304L SS and Type 316L SS, that is, the neutron fluence in which the local deformation like channeling deformation is dominant, is high for Type 316L SS.

Redox reactions between neptunium(V) (Np(V)) and magnetite (Fe(II)1Fe(III)2O4) surface were investigated in N gas atmosphere. A batch method was applied to the experiment. High-pure magnetite and a 0.1 M NaCl were mixed in a polypropylene tube, and pH, redox potential and concentration of dissolved neptunium were measured as a function of shaking time (from 1 hour to 7 days), temperature (298 K and 318 K) and liquid/solid ratio (20, 50 and 100 ml.g
). It was observed that the concentration of dissolved neptunium was reduced rapidly within a day, due to the reducing of Np(V) to Np(IV) and the precipitation of Np(IV). This result was shown typically when the magnetite/solution ratio and the temperature were high. The rate constant of the redox reaction and the activation energy for the rate constant were preliminarily obtained. It was suggested that the redox reaction was promoted by not only Fe(II) on magnetite surface but also Fe(II) inside the magnetite.
