One of critical issues for high-energy high-current beam acceleration in ITER and JT-60SA is the high voltage holding which is dominated by vacuum discharges. The past results suggest that vacuum discharge occurs beyond the threshold of the dark current. The dark current can be derived from F-N theory where electric field enhancement factor beta is included. Though, beta could only be evaluated from the experiment previously. Therefore, the method to decide beta without experiment is required. This time dark currents were measured at three different areas to compare beta in different electric field. As a result, the effective electric field $$beta$$E, where E is average electric field, were found to be almost constant for different areas although the beta is largely different. By applying $$beta$$E, beta can be evaluated analytically, leading to the analytical prediction of the dark current and voltage holding capability without the measurements.

A method of deducing the I-131 concentration in a radioactive plume from the time history of peak count rates determined from pulse height spectra obtained from an NaI(Tl)scintillation detector employed as a detector of a monitoring post was presented. The concentrations of I-131 in the plumes were estimated from the count rates using the calculated response of the NaI(Tl) detector with egs5 for a model of a plume uniformly containing I-131. This method was applied to the data from the monitoring posts at Nuclear Science Research Institutes of Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). The estimated time history variation of I-131 concentrations in plumes was in fair agreement with those measured directly by an air sampling method. The difference was less than a factor of 4 for plumes that arrived on March 15 and March 21, indicating relatively high I-131 concentrations among the plumes studied in this work.

Due to the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant caused by the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake occurred at 11th March 2011, the emergency environmental radiation monitoring was conducted at Nuclear Science Research Institute, Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). This report provides the monitoring results of ambient $$gamma$$-ray dose rate and atmospheric radioactivity concentration until the beginning of June 2011. Some anthropogenic radionuclides such as Cs-134, Cs-137, I-131, I-132, Te-132, Xe-133 and others were detected from air samples. The atmospheric radioactivity concentrations varied with some peaks corresponded with that of ambient $$gamma$$-ray dose rate after 15th March 2011. Composition of each peak showed various characteristic. Internal exposure caused by inhalation was estimated from the observed atmospheric radioactivity.

The meteorological observation at Tokai site has conducted based on a "Guideline of meteorological statistics for the safety analysis of nuclear power reactor" (Nuclear Safety Commission on January 28, 1982; revised on March 29, 2001) at Nuclear Science Research Institute in JAEA. The meteorological field was changed in 2005. This report shows assessments of the effect on the change of the meteorological field on April 2005.

The J-PARC (Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex) Linac consists of RFQ, DTL1-3 and SDTL1-15, and they are driven by 324 MHz klystron. To install the 324 MHz klystron in each cavity appropriately, we measured the RF characteristic of klystron, and acquired various parameters by klystron high power examination at test station. In this paper, we will describe the data acquisition system used by this examination.

The beam study of the low-energy front of J-PARC linac has been in progress in the KEK site. Last year, DTL1 (the first tank of three DTL's) was installed in addition to RFQ and the Medium Energy Beam Transport line, and the beam commissioning up to 20MeV has been performed successfully. In this paper, the low level RF (LLRF) System for this beam test is summarized and the performance of the RF feed back control system and monitor system of the phase and amplitude of the accelerating fields (324 MHz) is presented. It was found that the feed back system for Bunchers is also necessary to stabilize and to compensate for the beam induced fields.
