This paper is reported that result of leaching tests for bituminized waste and Waste solidified by epoxy resin, done from 2003 to 2006. We've get precious knowledge and data, as follows. (1) In leaching tests for bituminized waste, it has detected iodine-129 peak, considered difficult too low energy to detect. We've get data and knowledge of iodine-129 behavior first. Leached radioactivity for 50 days calculated by peak area was equal for about 40% and 100% of including radioactivity in bituminized waste sample. And we've get data of behavior of nitric acid ion and so on, important to study for disposal, in various condition of sample shape or leaching liquid temperature. (2) In leaching test for waste solidified by epoxy resin, we've get data of behavior of TBP, radionuclides and so on.

The international safeguards symposium under the theme of the addressing verification challenges was held in IAEA headquarters from 16th to 20th October 2006. There were 65 verbal presentations in the plenary sessions and 18 parallel sessions and 69 poster presentations concerning the challenges for extensive implementation of the comprehensive safeguards agreements and the additional protocols and so on in this symposium. The author did a presentation titled "Safeguards improvement for the Tokai Reprocessing Plant (TRP)" in the session 18 concerning the reprocessing and the spent fuel transfer. It describes the outline and the main points of each presentation in this session.

Low level liquid waste generated from reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel in the Tokai Reprocessing Plant solidified with bitumen from 1982 to 1997. About 30,000 of bituminized wastes were produced, and stored in the storage facility. Recently, the leakage phenomenon due to the corrosion of bituminized waste drum occurred in the other nuclear facility. Based on the malfunction event, we have advanced the development of observation device for grasping soundness of the bituminized waste drums stored in the storage facility. This paper is reported about our effort to develop a remote observation device of the bituminized waste drums stored in the storage facility and the observation results with the developed device.
