Stacking and single layer models are tested for understanding the effect of stacking on the stability of montmorillonite edge faces. Most stacking layers stabilize the edge faces by making hydrogen bonds between the layers; therefore, the surface energy of stacking layers is reduced rather than the single layer model. This indicates that the surface energy of edge faces should be estimated depending on the swelling conditions. Lowest surface energies of (010) and (130) edge faces were realized by the presence of Mg ions on the edge faces. These edge faces have a strong adsorption site for cations due to local negative charge of the edges.

The ionic strength of the solutions was fixed to = 1, 3, or 5 M by mixing of HNO and HClO. The major palladium species were found to be Pd, PdNO, and Pd(NO). The formation constant of PdNO was determined to be = 1.32 ( = 1 M), 1.49 ( = 3 M), or 1.47 ( = 5 M), while that of Pd(NO) to be = 0.45 ( = 3 M) or 0.14 ( = 5 M).

A method to detect the zonal flow using this characteristic was considered using the JFT-2M density fluctuation data. There is a possibility that the zonal flow will be able to be detected in the future burning plasmas by using the density fluctuations measured by some density fluctuation measurement by such as the microwave reflectometer and so on.

We report on the potential/density fluctuations in the JFT-2M tokamak. We identified a geodesic acoustic mode (GAM) and its electric field structure. The GAM interacts with the background turbulence in consistent with a drift wave - zonal flow theory. The GAM modulates the turbulence, and the suppression depends on the direction and gradient of the flow velocity in consistent with a theory. During the H-mode, the GAM disappears presumably due to the suppression of the turbulence. We analysed the low frequency potential oscillation during the H-mode. A wavelet analysis showed a low frequency characteristic potential fluctuations (several handred kHz), which disappears in the L-mode and at the occurence of ELM. Observed poloidal flow is about 20 times as large as that of the GAM during the H-mode. If the potential has a spatial inhomogineity, there is a possibility that this low frequency fluctuation comes from the EXB flow or the zonal flow.

Nonlinear processes between meso-scale structures and turbulent fluctuations in the edge region of the toroidal plasmas were studied using the bispectrum analysis. In the JFT-2M tokamak, divertor plasmas were investigated as well as the limiter plasmas, and the amplitude and phase of the bispectrum function of the potential fluctuation were found to be consistent with an analysis of the drift wave-zonal flow system. In the CHS machine, the edge plasmas during the H-mode were investigated. It was found that the edge potential begins to decrease before the decrease of the intensity of the deuterium line (by about 30ms), and the edge fluctuations are found to be composed of low frequency MHD fluctuations, drift wave like broad band electrostatic fluctuations and high frequency electromagnetic fluctuations. Nonlinear coupling between the MHD fluctuations and the electrostatic fluctuations or the electromagnetic fluctuations were found for the first time.

Times Cited Count:55 Percentile:80.1(Radiology, Nuclear Medicine & Medical Imaging)To develop a radiopharmaceutical for the palliation of painful bone metastases based on the concept of bifunctional radiopharmaceuticals, we synthesized a bisphosphonate derivative labeled with rhenium-186 (Re) that contains a hydroxyl group at the central carbon of its bisphosphonate structure and attached a stable Re-MAMA chelate to the amino group of a 4-amino-butylidene-bisphosphonate derivative, Re-MAMA-HBP, and investigated the effect of a hydroxyl group at the central carbon of its bisphosphonate structure on the affinity for hydroxyapatite and biodistribution by conducting a comparative study with Re-MAMA-BP. Re-MAMA-HBP was prepared by a reaction with ReO and SnCl in citrate buffer after the deprotection of trityl groups of Tr-MAMA-HBP. After reversed phase HPLC, Re-MAMA-HBP had a radiochemical purity of over 95 %. Compared with Re-MAMA-BP, Re-MAMA-HBP showed a greater affinity for hydroxyapatite beads in vitro and accumulated a significantly higher level in the femur in vivo. Thus, the introduction of a hydroxyl group into Re complex-conjugated bisphosphonates would be effective in enhancing accumulation in bone. These findings provide useful information on the design of bone-seeking therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals.

The low frequency mode and the high frequency mode are considered to be a low frequency zonal flow and a geodesic acoustic mode respectively. We could found that the low frequency oscillation has a three wave interaction with the background turbulence as well as the high frequency oscillation does from the bicoherence (nonlinear coupling coefficient), biphase and envelope moduration relation. Apparently, the modulation of the high frequency mode by the low frequency mode was suggested, but it was found that the bicoherence between them is small and the modulation relation was not concluded. Therefore, it is concluded that the nonlinear interaction between the zonal flow - zonal flow system does not exist or the interaction of them is linear if any. Thus it was found that the marked nonlinear interaction occurs only in the turbulence - zonal flow system and not in the zonal flow - zonal flow system.

This paper reports the results of calculations about coupled hydro-mechanical process in the domain around excavations at clay rock site at Tournemire, France. We operated the numerical modelling by using a Finite Element Method code named THAMES, on the assumption that swelling pressure is parallel to saturation ratio. The results of modelling indicated that saturation ratio changes seasonally at the domain within several tens cm from tunnel wall. This extension is similar to that of damage zone observed in the tunnel at Tournemire site in 1881, which supports the idea that the saturation-desaturation cycles has decreased the rock strength and caused damage zone extension. The modelling results also suggested that the consideration of swelling pressure could affect evolution of stress state abruptly.

Inside of the outermost magnetic surface,coherent modes were observed around the frequency of geodesic acoustic mode which is a kind of the zonal flow. The squared bicoherence shows significant nonlinear couplings between the coherent fluctuations and the background fluctuations (which are likely to contain drift wave turbulent fluctuations). The experimental results that the total bicoherence is proportional to the squared amplitude of the coherent fluctuation, and that the biphase of the coherent modes localizes around a constant value , are consistent with the theoretical prediction on the drift wave - zonal flow systems based on the Hasegawa-Mima model.

A theoretical study of the convergence is presented. And it was found that the convergence property of the total bicoherence and bispector of the fluctuations of drift wave or zonal flow observed in the JFT-2M tokamak plasma is consistent with the theoretical analysis, and also found that the realization number for the convergence is fairly large, for example about 1000 for the JFT-2M experimental fluctuation data. As stated, we made a base for such fluctuation analysis.

This report provides an analysis of the results of the survey conducted among field experts regarding the data on atoms, molecules, and atomic nuclei used in medical applications. The important results are summarized as follows: First, the importance of the basic data for disciplines involved in medical research, i.e. physics and engineering, chemistry, pharmacology, biology, and the related data which are applied directly in medicine were identified. The related data are of greater importance in direct medical application compared to conventional basic data. Therefore, the data related to biology should be prepared in consideration of their convenient usage. Second, regarding the fundamental data on atoms, molecules and atomic nuclei related to medicine, the present data was able to approximately cope with the demands of many medical cases that needed data on quality, quantity, precision, etc. However, we found situations particularly in the IT community where comprehensively organized data was urgently needed. The data to be used for practical implementation must contain the specialized data for medical physics and biology. Finally, the significance of the continuity in the planned completion of the basic data was confirmed for the development of the associated fields. The expansion and completion of basic data should be done continuously and effectively while considering the limitation in resources and manpower.
