For the evaluation of irradiated segregation behavior, Austenite-based stainless steel for the fast reactor, during irradiation was evaluated by utilizing TIARA facility (Irradiate temperature: 600 C, Dose: 100 dpa) was observed by analytical electron microscope (JEM-ARM20FC). As a result of observation, the large-size void is observed in irradiation area, and MX segregation (containing Niobium) is not observed. In un-irradiation area the MX segregation is observed. And it is observed conspicuously that Nickel is segregation on the void surface. By the latest high-performance TEM utilization, these phenomenon are able to visualize. It is expected for the clarification of the irradiation damage and mechanism of void swelling, by the analyzing these phenomenon utilization with the latest high-performance TEM utilization.

) from ferrite solid solution subjected to isothermal annealing at 673 K. Based on a systematic analysis of solute clusters as a function of annealing time, the nucleation of the G-phase was found to occur via a two-step process. Moreover, the structural change was found to occur via another two-step process. There was a time lag between the end of cluster growth to become a critical size and the start of the structural change. During the incubation period solute enrichment occurred inside the clusters without further size growth, indicating that the nucleation of the G-phase occurs at the critical size with a critical composition. Judging from the results of APT, TEM and the simulation of electron diffraction patterns, the critical composition was estimated to be Ni

The proposed process consists of two complementary evaluations, one focusing on structural integrity and the other on plant safety. In this study, the ISI requirements for a reactor guard vessel (RGV) and core support structure (CSS) of a prototype sodium-cooled fast breeder reactor in Japan (Monju) were investigated using the proposed process. It was shown that both components had sufficient reliability even assuming unrealistic severe conditions. The failure occurrences of these components were practically eliminated. Hence, it was concluded that no ISI requirements were needed for these components. The proposed process is expected to contribute to the realization of effective and rational ISI by properly taking into account plant-specific features.

Environmental radiation monitoring around the Tokai Reprocessing Plant has been performed by the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Engineering Laboratories, based on "Safety Regulations for the Reprocessing Plant of Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Chapter IV - Environmental Monitoring". This annual report presents the results of the environmental monitoring and the dose estimation to the hypothetical inhabitant due to the radioactivity discharged from the plant to the atmosphere and the sea during April 2014 to March 2015. In this report, some data include the influence of the accidental release from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station of Tokyo Electric Power Co. in March 2011.

The high-performance computer system Helios which is located at The Computational Simulation Centre (CSC) in The International Fusion Energy Research Centre (IFERC) started its operation in January 2012 under the Broader Approach (BA) agreement between Japan and the EU. The Helios system has been used for magnetised fusion related simulation studies in the EU and Japan and has kept high average usage rate. As a result, the Helios system has contributed to many research products in a wide range of research areas from core plasma physics to reactor material and reactor engineering. This project review gives a short catalogue of domestic simulation research projects. First, we outline the IFERC-CSC project. After that, shown are objectives of the research projects, numerical schemes used in simulation codes, obtained results and necessary computations in future.

A new process for determination of inservice inspection (ISI) requirements was proposed based on the System Based Code concept to realize effective and rational ISI by properly taking into account plant specific features. The proposed process consists of two complementary evaluations, one focusing on structural integrity and the other one on detectability of defects before they would grow to an unacceptable size in light of plant safety. If defect detection was not feasible, structural integrity evaluation would be required under sufficiently conservative hypothesis. The applicability of the proposed process was illustrated through an application to the existing prototype fast breeder reactor, Monju.

In the System Based Code (SBC), a reliability target is defined according to the importance of components (risk and/or failure probability), and grade of material, design, manufacture and maintenance are chosen to satisfy the reliability target. Therefore, reliability evaluation of components plays the important role of the concept of SBC. Until now, the LRFD methods were developed for burst due to internal pressure, plastic collapse due to membrane and bending stress, fatigue, limit load assessment of flawed pipe, and buckling of thin wall cylinder. This paper describes the action plans of development of the reliability assessment methods and an examination results up to date.

The Advanced Fuel Assembly Assay System (AFAS) is an unattended non-destructive assay (NDA) system by neutron measurement to verify the plutonium amount in an LWR plutonium and uranium mixed oxide (MOX) fuel assembly. The assembly will be fabricated in the MOX fuel fabrication plant under construction by the Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited. The AFAS has been developed by Los Alamos National Laboratory under the auspices of the Secretariat of Nuclear Regulation Authority in Japan. The AFAS is the first NDA system which will verify the active length of the assembly without inspector attendance. Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has conducted the performance test for the AFAS under the contract with Nuclear Material Control Center to demonstrate this active length verification technology by using MOX fuel assemblies owned by JAEA. As the results, it was confirmed that measurement error of the active length for the MOX fuel assembly was less than 0.1% and it was satisfied with requirement by IAEA. This paper provides the performance test results for the active length verification of the AFAS.

Detailed structures of the distribution function in magnetic fusion plasmas are investigated by means of gyrokinetic simulations performed on massively parallel supercomputers. The gyrokinetic simulations of drift wave turbulence have demonstrated entropy transfer in the phase space, zonal flow enhancement by helical fields and the resultant transport reduction. The state-of-the-art high performance computing is utilized for a multi- scale turbulence simulation covering ion- and electron-scales and for a global-scale simulation of turbulent transport in a sub-ITER sized plasma.

An experiment simulating a PWR cold leg IBLOCA with 17% break at cold leg was conducted. The post-test analysis by RELAP5/MOD3.2.1.2 code revealed that cladding surface temperature was underpredicted due to later major core uncovery. The post-test analysis conditions were considered as Base Case assuming the discrepancies were caused by uncertainties in the code predictability and input data. Key phenomena and related important parameters, which may affect the cladding surface temperature, were selected based on the LSTF test data analysis and post-test analysis results. Sensitivity analyses were performed by changing the parameters relevant to the key phenomena within the ranges to investigate influences of the parameters onto the cladding surface temperature. It was confirmed that both constant C of Wallis CCFL correlation at the core exit and inter-phase drag in the core are more sensitive to the cladding surface temperature.

Times Cited Count:3 Percentile:18.39(Optics)By introducing 13th- (61.7 nm) and 15th-order harmonics (53.4 nm) of femtosecond laser pulses at 800 nm into an undulator of SCSS (SPring-8 Compact SASE Source) test accelerator at RIKEN, these harmonic pulses were amplified by a factor of more than 10 with a high contrast ratio through the interaction between accelerated electron bunches and the harmonic pulses. From numerical simulations of the amplification processes of high-order harmonic pulses in the undulator, optimum conditions of the electron bunch duration interacting with the high-order harmonic pulses were investigated for generating full-coherent and intense pulses in the extreme ultraviolet wavelength region.
