Hydration and solvation properties of europium(III) chelate in ionic liquids

We have recently reported that the neutral tris(2-thenoyltrifluoroacetonato)europium(III) (Eu(tta)$$_{3}$$) chelate was almost completely dehydrated in 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide ([C$$_{n}$$mim][Tf$$_{2}$$N]) saturated with water. In the present study, the effect of the water and Tf$$_{2}$$N$$^{-}$$ concentrations in ILs on the solvation of Eu(tta)$$_{3}$$ was investigated to elucidate the cause of the dehydration of the metal chelate in ILs and to clarify the solvent properties of ILs. It was found that Eu(tta)$$_{3}$$ exists as di- or tri-hydrates in [C$$_{2}$$mim][ClO$$_{4}$$] containing 20 M water. The number of coordinated water molecules of Eu(tta)$$_{3}$$ decreased with a decrease in water concentration in [C$$_{2}$$mim][Tf$$_{2}$$N-ClO$$_{4}$$]. Furthermore, although Eu(tta)$$_{3}$$ was mono-hydrated in 1,2-dichloroethane containing 3.4 $$times$$ 10$$^{-3}$$ M Tf$$_{2}$$N$$^{-}$$, almost complete dehydration of Eu(tta)$$_{3}$$ was observed in the presence of 3.4 $$times$$ 10$$^{-2}$$ M Tf$$_{2}$$N$$^{-}$$. These results clearly indicate that the coordinated water molecules of Eu(tta)$$_{3}$$(H$$_{2}$$O)$$_{3}$$ are replaced by Tf$$_{2}$$N$$^{-}$$ in ILs. Therefore, it was revealed that, in solvent extraction, the dehydrated metal chelate is effectively formed by the coordination of Tf$$_{2}$$N$$^{-}$$ in water-saturated ILs.

Synthesis, characterization and physical property investigation of actinide intermetallic compounds

Recent advances in single crystal growth and physical property investigations of actinide intermetallic compounds are reviewed. The naturally available uranium and its compounds are well investigated and new phenomena such as unidentified electronic orderings and unconventional superconductivity are being discovered. In transuranics, despite their difficulty in handling, peculiar superconductors and new intermetallic phases have been found in recent years. We discuss technical developments as well as novel behavior of those system.

燃焼処分可能なアミド、ジアミド抽出剤はアクチノイド元素に高い選択性をもっている。それゆえに、それらは原子力分野でよく用いられている。一つの特徴として合成が比較的容易であり、様々な構造の抽出剤の開発が容易である。優れた抽出剤の開発にあたり、抽出性能比較を行うことは重要である。特に異なる骨格を持つ化合物による比較に注目した。ここではアクチノイド以外にもアルカリ金属、アルカリ土類金属、3, 4, 5グループの金属にも注目しデータ評価を行った。
