Multi-functional magnesium hydroxide coating for iron nanoparticles towards prolonged reactivity in Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solutions

In this study, the reactive performance of magnesium hydroxide-coated iron nanoparticles was investigated for the removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions. Short- and long-term progressive-release of reactivity was evaluated through several batch tests. The Multi-functional effect of the environmentally-friendly magnesium hydroxide coating shell was represented by the progressive shell-dissolution in water and preventing the rapid corrosion of the iron core, which resulted in a controlled release of reactivity towards hexavalent chromium. Magnesium hydroxide-coated iron nanoparticles showed good performance in preserving the long-term reactivity within a wide ranges of pH and temperature. The long-term investigation of magnesium hydroxide-coated iron nanoparticles performance towards hexavalent chromium removal confirmed the progressive and maintained reactivity, represented by the continuous release of iron core electrons, to achieve full removal over 50 days reaction time, to be reported for the first time in the literature. The material showed high regeneration abilities up to 5 cycles with 1.36 times average enhancement in hexavalent chromium removal efficiency compared to that of iron. Moreover, it achieved an increase in the shelf-live longevity performance up to 30 days without any storing solution with considerable removal efficiency after 180 min reaction time.

有害金属除去は安心安全社会構築のために必要な技術である。本研究では、骨の有するイオン交換能を最大限に活用して廃材を用いた有害金属除去材料の開発を行った。炭酸塩水溶液に骨を浸漬することで高炭酸含有ナノアパタイトが形成することを見出した。この材料は、通常の骨、また合成アパタイトに比べて約250、4500倍高いストロンチウム吸着性能を示した。本材料は廃材を利用していることから、低コストかつ高性能な吸着剤として活用が期待できる。

熱化学水素製造法ISプロセスの主要反応の一つで、硫酸およびヨウ化水素(HI)酸を生成するブンゼン反応におけるヨウ素過剰添加量を削減する手法として、プロトン透過選択性のイオン交換膜を用いた電解反応(膜ブンゼン反応)の導入が提案されている。反応効率向上のためには、イオン交換膜性能である、膜を透過する水の移動量を抑制することが有効である。本報では、水透過の抑制を狙いとし、放射線グラフト法を用いて作成したイオン交換膜のグラフト鎖に架橋剤としてジビニルベンゼン(DVB)を添加することにより架橋構造を導入したイオン交換膜(架橋グラフト膜)を試作した。架橋グラフト膜を用いた膜ブンゼン反応試験により、硫酸およびHI酸が生成することを確認し、本膜が膜ブンゼン反応に適応可能なことを示した。また、架橋グラフト膜を用いた水透過試験では、未架橋のグラフト膜と比較して、水透過速度が最大で56%減少する結果となり、本膜が水の透過抑制効果を有することを見出した。これらの結果から、DVBにより架橋構造を導入した架橋グラフト膜が膜ブンゼン反応における水透過抑制に有効であることを示した。

酸分配法における高Pu濃度フィード溶液条件におけるPuの分配挙動を調べるため、向流多段試験を行った。フィード溶液に比べてU/PuプロダクトのPu富荷度を1.51倍に高めることができた。Pu分配工程において、Pu重合体や第三相の生成はみられず、安定して遠心抽出器の運転が行われた。

A novel macrocyclic ligand of di-o-benzo-p-xylyl-28-crown-8-ether (DOBPX28C8) was prepared and successfully anchored onto the mesoporous silica for the fabrication of mesoporous hybrid adsorbent (MHA) using direct immobilization approach and serving as an efficient adsorbent for Cs removal. The high amount of K (7.69 mM) was slightly affected the Cs adsorption because the hydration radius of K is close to the Cs than that of the other cation of Na. Also the Cs adsorption efficiency was more higher even in the presence of 1,025 fold K and 1,739 fold Na, respectively. The functional group of DOBPX28C8 ligand embedded onto the mesoporous silica exhibited more conformational freedom, and the benzene ring in para position was consolidated for pai-electron orientation with expanding the ring size of DOBPX28C8 for easy capturing with high selectivity and adsorption ability towards the Cs.

Effects of weak organic acids on the size distribution and size-dependent metal binding of humic substances as studied by flow field-flow fractionation

腐植物質はサイズや官能基組成の点で不均質な天然有機物であり、幅広い金属イオンと結合し、動態を変化させる。本研究では、ナノメートルスケールの連続的なサイズ分画が可能な流動場分画法を用いて、腐植物質のサイズ分布に与える有機酸の影響、および、腐植物質の分子サイズに依存した金属イオンの結合量の比較を行った。通常、pH緩衝剤としてもちいられるTris, MES, MOPSの3種類の有機酸存在下でのAldrichフミン酸(PAHA)のサイズ分布を調べた結果、Tris, MESでは、それぞれ、サイズの増加と減少が見られ、MOPSでは、有機酸無しの場合と同様のサイズが得られた。これらの結果は、TrisおよびMESとの相互作用により、PAHAのサイズが変化したことを示唆する。MOPS存在下で、PAHAに結合したユーロピウムとウランのサイズ分布を調べたところ、これらの金属イオンが特定の5nmのサイズを持つPAHA分子に高い親和性を示すことが分かった。

A novel Schiff base ligand based nano-composite adsorbent (NCA) was prepared for the detection and removal of copper (Cu(II)) ions in wastewater samples. Upon the addition of Cu(II) ions to NCA at optimum conditions, the clear color was visible to the naked-eye in the detection system. This NCA exhibited an obvious color change from yellowish to dark green in the presence of Cu(II) ions in aqueous solution. The NCA could detect the Cu(II) ions over other foreign ions with high sensitivity and selectivity. For adsorption behaviour, influences several factors such as solution pH, contact time, concentration for Cu(II) ion adsorption was investigated by batch experiment in detail. The results showed that neutral solution pH was suitable to get optimum Cu(II) ions adsorption.

A Sensitive ligand embedded nano-conjugate adsorbent for effective cobalt(II) ions capturing from contaminated water

The organic ligand of N,N(octane-1,8-diylidene)di(2-hydroxyl-3,5-dimethylaniline) was synthesized and anchored onto inorganic mesoporous materials by direct immobilization method for Co(II) ions capturing from waste samples. The interaction of this material with various metal ions was evaluated, and it exhibited distinct color change from whitish to green in the presence of Co(II) ions, detectable even to the naked-eye. The effects of solution pH, contact time, competing ions and initial concentration on Co(II) sorption on NCA were investigated under optimum conditions. The data also clarified that the NCA adsorbent is an efficient and eco-friendly adsorbent for Co(II) treatment. Therefore, the proposed adsorbent can be considered as a potential candidate for Co(II) ions monitoring and removal from wastewater in large-scale operations.

The detection and removal of lead (Pb(II)) ions in water is essential for both human health and the natural environment. This study reported the feasibility of the large-pore diameter nano-adsorbent for capturing low level Pb(II) ions from aqueous solutions in a batch system, in order to comply with the toxicity limit for discharging wastewaters. The proposed Pb(II) detection system has good characteristics with high sensitivity and selectivity, robustness, easy operation, portability and use of a small sample volume. The competing ions effect was assessed with spiked samples and the nano-adsorbent exhibited high selectivity to Pb(II) ions with optimum color formation and the detection procedure can be easily applied to rapid on-site Pb(II) ions monitoring.

Ligand anchored functional nanomaterials are increasingly gaining interest as efficient materials for various types of toxic pollutants. In this study, the organic ligand was densely anchored onto the mesoporous silica by the building-block approach as facial adsorbent, characterized and then examined for the cobalt (Co(II)) ion detection and removal from aqueous solutions. This study also examined the possibility of using facial adsorbent to remove low concentrations of Co(II) ions from water solution. The sorption isotherms fit the Langmuir sorption model well and the maximum Co(II) ion sorption capacity was 157.73 mg/g. The effective eluent of 0.20M HCl was used to elute the Co(II) from the facial adsorbent, and the adsorbent was simultaneously regenerated into the initial form after rinsing with water.

The soft donor atoms containing organic ligand was prepared and then successfully immobilized onto the ordered nanomaterials to form facial adsorbent for copper(II) ions removal from water. The soft donor atoms of this ligand are actively working to make a stable complex formation with Cu(II) at a neutral pH region. It is also noted that the organic ligand was acted as receptors and able to transfer chemical information into analytical signals by charge transfer transudation during the detection operation.

Investigation of ligand immobilized nano-composite adsorbent for efficient cerium(III) detection and recovery

In this study, the organic ligand of 4-dodecyl-6-((4-(hexyloxy)phenyl)diazenyl) benzene-1,3-diol (DPDB) and mesoporous silica have been used to prepare the nano-composite adsorbent. The nano-composite adsorbent was fabricated by indirect immobilization of DPDB onto the mesoporous silica. The experimental data clarified that the Ce(III) was detected and adsorbed by the adsorbent at pH 2.50. The limit of detection for Ce(III) ions by the adsorbent was 0.12 microgram/L and the sorption capacity was 150.37 mg/g at optimum conditions. The proposed adsorbent allowed the sensitive, selective, easy to use, cost-effective, high efficiency, fast kinetics and stable capturing of Ce(III) ions even in the presence of diverse competing ions.

Organic-inorganic based nano-conjugate adsorbent for selective palladium(II) detection, separation and recovery

The functional group containing organic ligand was developed and then successfully anchored onto mesoperous silica for the preparation of nano-conjugate adsorbent. After fabrication, the ligand kept open functionality for capturing Pd(II) under optimum conditions. The adsorbent exhibited the distinct color formation after adding the Pd(II) ions both in solid and liquid states. The base metal of Cu(II) and Zn(II) did not hamper the Pd(II) sorption ability of adsorbent in the acidic pH region. Therefore, it was expected that the Pd(II) could be separated from other hard metal ions by the adsorbent. Therefore the proposed adsorbent can be considered as a potential candidate for Pd(II) capturing from waste samples.

BNCT用中性子ターゲットインサートPdの0.1-5keV VH$$_{2}$$$$^{+}$$照射特性をXAFSで計測することにより、下記結論を得た。(1)照射により1.1-3倍の顕著なエッジジャンプが低照射量域で観察された。(2)このことからPd 4d軌道のホール数の増加を意味している一方、比較材であるAgには変化はみられなかった。(3)同照射条件で0.12-0.66eVのエッジシフトが生じるとともに、重照射時には急激は減少が見られた。(4)Pd内に蓄積されている注入イオンはH$$^{-}$$の状態で存在している。

This work was focused on the promising inorganic and ligand immobilized conjugate materials for selective and high capacity of radioactive cesium (Cs) removal from radioactive liquid waste in Fukushima after an accident at Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant hit by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami on 11 March 2011. The conjugate adsorbent was prepared by direct immobilization of crown ether onto mesoporous silica monoliths. The Cs sorption behavior was investigated using batch equilibrium technique. The effective pH range for high Cs capacity was possible within the neutral pH region and the maximum sorption capacities were 50.23 and 27.40 mg/g for conjugate adsorbent and inorganic adsorbent, respectively.

The pH dependent Cu(II) and Pd(II) ions detection and removal efficiency was investigated using ligand embedded mesoporous adsorbent. The adsorbent permits to fast and specific visualization of Cu(II) and Pd(II) ions detection and removal from aqueous media via a colorimetric signal visible to the naked eye. The adsorbent showed very high adsorption capacity (182.39 and 172.53 mg/g for Cu(II) and Pd(II), respectively) and adsorption uptake on the adsorbent reaching equilibrium was also very rapid with extreme selectivity in ionic competition.

Design a novel optical adsorbent for simultaneous ultra-trace cerium(III) detection, sorption and recovery

The optical adsorbent was prepared by synthesizing of 4-tert-Octyl-4-((phenyl)diazenyl)phenol and subsequently successfully immobilized onto mesoporous silica monoliths. The data revealed that the conjugate adsorbent was efficiently detected and adsorbed the ultra-trace Ce(III) ions from aqueous solutions. The design of optical conjugate adsorbent has a great potential to be used in efficient, selective and simultaneous Ce(III) detection, sorption and extraction from waste and can be used of nuclear power plants wastewaters treatment effectively.

This study was investigated the trace lanthanide (Nd(III), Eu(III) and Yb(III)) sorption and recovery from wastewater streams by novel hybrid adsorbent. The experiments were investigated to determine the effects pH, ions selectivity and lanthanide ions coordination by XAFS spectra. The EXAFS data revealed that O and N donor atoms of the HA were strongly coordinated to lanthanide ions to form stable complexes. However, the bond distance of O donor atoms was shorter than N donor atoms.

Radiation-induced graft polymerization has been applied to the commercial production of functional materials, e.g., absorber of basic gases and ion-exchanger of proteins. However, to date, the graft chain has not been satisfactorily characterized because of the difficulty in isolating the graft chain from the trunk polymer. In this study, a simple method is used to determine the mole percentages of the polymer brush and root of the epoxy-group-containing graft chain, on the basis of the differences in swelling induced by the sequential introduction of ion-exchange groups into a hydrophobic graft chain with a reagent dissolved in water as the solvent. The proposed method enables us to scientifically depict an image of the polymer chain grafted onto the porous polymer and helps us to design porous polymers.

Copper(II) ions capturing from water using ligand modified a new type mesoporous adsorbent

The mesoporous adsorbent was fabricated by direct immobilization of a synthesized (3-(3-(methoxycarbonyl)benzylidene) hydrazinyl)benzoic acid onto mesoporous silica monoliths and tested for its potential application of Cu(II) ions sensing and removal from wastewater. The Cu(II) bonding with ligand to enhanced color formation and capturing corresponding to formation of [Cu(II)-ligand]n+ complexes. The effective pH range for Cu(II) capturing was neutral region and the maximum sorption capacity of the adsorbent was as high as 145.98 mg/g. The new type adsorbent exhibited good recyclability for several cycles use after sensing and removal operation without deterioration in its significant performances.
