This shift in membrane mechanism grants access to a variety of heretofore forbidden choices for positive and negative electrode metals and allows the battery to charge-discharge at high rate without degradation. Fitted with a porous membrane of TiN, a displacement cell comprising a Pb positive electrode, a Li Pb negative electrode, and LiCl-KCl eutectic electrolyte was cycled at 410C and exhibited a coulombic efficiency of 92%. The capacity fade rate was measured to be 0.00172% per cycle, which is tantamount to retention of greater than 94% of initial capacity after 10 years. Most significant from the standpoint of scalability, we show that the faradaic membrane can be fashioned out of metal so as to be mechanically durable and therefore easily mass-produced at large scale with a thin cross-section for minimal ohmic drop in cell voltage.

IAEA has developed a coordinated research project (CRP) to evaluate various issues associated with the fracture toughness Master Curve for application to light-water RPVs. Topic Area 1 of the CRP is focused on the issue of test specimen geometry effects, with emphasis on determination of reference temperature T0 with the pre-cracked Charpy specimen and the bias effect. Within the analytical part, elastic plastic finite element methods are used in order to access local stress and strain information. This analytical round robin exercise has been performed by ten laboratories from nine different countries focusing on the modeling of realistic three dimensional geometries containing shallow and deep crack. Independently of the used code and of relatively small user effect differences, it is found that shallow crack specimens are more sensitive to loss of constraint than deep crack specimens for a given specimen size. The difference in terms of reference temperature between the two geometries is evaluated to be about 40C.

Here we consider in particular the following issues: (1) the actual possibility to quench the PFCI conductor in the TCS tests before quenching the intermediate joint, (2) the question of the so-called sudden or premature quench, based on SULTAN sample results, applying a recently developed multi-solid and multi-channel extension of the Mithrandir code to a short sample analysis; (3) the feasibility of the AC losses calorimetry in the PFCI. These results show that Tcs measurement and the calorimetric measurement of AC losses will be carried out successfully. However, we need further analytic works for the problem of the sudden quench.
