Some nuclear facilities of JNC such as Tokai Reprosessing Plant or Tokai Plutonium Fuel plant have been operating over 20 years since their completion. These facilities' buildings are constructed near the seaside, so we are that, we are surveing the secular change, estimating the tendency and counterplan to operate the facilities stably. In this paper, we resport the abstract of the result of the survey, and the maintenance stage of the diagnostic techniques etc.

JNC reflected on the fire and explosion incident of the bituminization facility and decided to evaluate on the safety of TRP voluntarily. This evaluation has included three activities, that is, (1)evaluation on the prevention system, (2)evaluation on the mitigation system, (3)confirmation on the method of the criticality safety analysis and the radiation shielding analysis. This report describes the results of the evaluation on the prevention system of the TRP's processes. We used HAZOP and FMEA to pick about 4000 abnormal conditions of each process up and selected about 700 abnormal transients. We estimated on a progress of all abnormal tansients and confirmed proprieties of prevention systems. We will reflect these results to improvement of system and operation manual and to education, training for stuffs and operators.

Study of safety for the low-flow ventilation system

Recently Reprocessing Plants and Nuclear Waste Facilities in which HALW (High Active Liquid Waste) is treated might have a integrated remote handling cell for decreasing exposure dose rate of operaters and operating effectivly. And to minimize an exhaust gas flow rate they might have the Low-Flow Ventiration System for their integrated remote handling cell ventilation. To confirm safety of vitrificating cell in TOKAI VITRIFICATI0N FACILITY (TVF) that has the Low-Flow Ventiration System, we experimented for heat and mass Transfer of the Low-Flow Ventiration Cell, developed Three-Dimensional Heat-Fluid Analysis Code and Pressure and Temperature Analysis Code for the Low-Flow Ventiration Cell, and experimented the behavior of FP for the Low-Flow Ventiration Cell. This report shows results of these experiments and developments for the Low-Flow Ventiration System.
