We adopted the "Live-autoradiography" technique with radioactive Fe to directly evaluate the uptake rate of Fe by barley cultivars from a nutrient solution containing a very low concentration of Fe. Our observations revealed that the ability to acquire Fe from the low Fe solution was not always the sole determinant of tolerance to Fe deficiency among the barley genotypes.

In this study, we developed an autoradiography system with phosphor powder (ZnS:Ag), "Live-autoradiography", for imaging radioisotope dynamics in a living plant. This system visualizes the element migration and accumulation in intact plants continuously under a light environment. An imaging test was performed on point sources of Cs, with a radioactivity of 10-100 kBq of being observed; this indicates satisfactory system linearity between the image intensity and the radioactivity of Cs. Moreover, dynamics imaging of Cs was performed on an intact soybean plant for four days. The serial images indicated Cs accumulation in the node, vein, and growing point of the plant. The developed system can be used for studying plant physiological phenomena and can be employed for quantitative measurement of radionuclides.

The recent update of AMATERAS, a cold-neutron disk-chopper spectrometer at Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC), is reported. AMATERAS has been operating for a decade. Since 2017, some updates have been done or are underway, which include installing new detectors, replacing the vacuum system of the scattering chamber, and other works. We are also working on the re-investigation of the resolution function. Demonstration measurements were carried out at 1MW test operations done in 2018 and 2019. Plans of upgrading the spectrometer are currently being considered.

The sum of spectroscopic factors of orbital is found to be 1.0 0.3. The result shows that the O core of F nucleus significantly differs from a free O nucleus, and the core consists of 35% O, and 65% excited O. The result shows that the O core of F nucleus significantly differs from a free O nucleus. The result may infer that the addition of the proton considerably changes the neutron structure in F from that in O, which could be a possible mechanism responsible for the oxygen dripline anomaly.

Oscillatory form in the diffuse scattering intensity of BaF was observed at 295 K. The correlation effects among thermal displacements of F-F atoms were obtained from the analysis of oscillatory diffuse scattering intensity. From the values of correlation effects and Debye-Waller temperature parameters, force constants among the first and second nearest neighboring atoms of BaF, were determined to be 4.40 and 2.30 eV/ at 295 K, respectively

Preliminary examination of image processing was conducted using existing reactor inside images through a fiber scope in order to confirm applicability of 3D-mapping in a reactor as a part of development of 3D-measurement technology. The Upright SURF (Speeded Up Robust Features) was used to find corresponding points between two captured images. In case of images showing many similar textures or lack of texture, it was difficult to find corresponding points using SURF only. By coupling with a canny algorithm to detect edges of the inside structure, it was found that 3D-structure could be measured for rectilinear objects. Also, image acquisition model was examined in order to clarify camera specs.

As previously reported on monolayer pentacene, it was revealed that bunched steps on vicinal Si(111) with bismuth termination break the surface symmetry and reduce three-fold symmetry of DPh-BTBT grains into quasi-single orientation. Interestingly, the critical step height necessary for the orientation control was different from that of pentacene. We examined several mechanisms of orientation control and concluded that the facet nano structure fabricated by step bunching is working as an anisotropic template. We will also show the wettability control of bismuth terminated silicon surface and show that the growth mode of DPh-BTBT is dependent on the surface nanostructure of Bi-Si.

The financial accounting and contract management system of JAEA, built on a commercial ERP package, had suffered from serious problems of high lifecycle cost, poor response, and lack of extensibility, due to the too much customization to the ERP package, and disorganized software structure. To solve those problems, three approaches were applied; (1) conducting thorough analysis of business flow and fit/gap, which enabled removing all customization brought to the ERP package; (2) dividing the system into subsystems, and clearly defining interfaces between the subsystems, which increases the transparency, extensibility and performance of the system; (3) outsourcing the development of the subsystems to multiple venders to reduce the development cost. Those approaches can be useful for developing business information systems using commercial software to save time and cost, while meeting the unique requirements of an organization.

Diffuse neutron scattering measurement on Cu crystals was performed at 10 K and 300 K and the observed diffuse scattering intensities were analyzed by including the correlation effects among thermal displacements of atoms in the theory. Using the values of correlation effects among neighboring atoms and the values of Debye-Waller temperature parameter, force constants among first, second and third nearest neighboring atoms had been evaluated. The estimated values of force constants among first, second and third nearest neighboring atoms of Cu were 5.58, 3.63 and 2.37 eV/ at 300 K, respectively. The relation between correlation effects and the inter-atomic distance is not depending much on the crystal binding types.

Four kinds of ion implanted specimens were prepared with 100 appm Al, 1000 appm Al, 100 appm Be and 1000 appm Be implanted. No microstructural change was observed in the matrices and fibers of SiC/SiC composites implanted with Al or Be ions up to 1000 appm. The un-implanted and Al or Be pre-implanted SiC/SiC composites were simultaneously irradiated to 10 dpa using triple ion-beams (6.0-MeV Si, 1.0-MeV He and 340-keV H) at 1000 C. Helium bubbles were formed in every matrix and fiber irradiated by triple ion-beams. The size of He bubbles in the matrix was increased by implanting Al or Be ions and increased with increasing amount of implanted Al or Be ions. The size of He bubbles in the fiber was slightly increased by implanting Al or Be ions. These results suggest that Al or Be as transmutation products and impurities may accelerate the growth of He bubbles in SiC/SiC composites under fusion reactor conditions.

Silicon carbide semiconductor device is expected to be used under a severe environment like the nuclear reactor and the space environment. On the semiconductor device interface, the electric charge state of the defect decides an electric characteristic. To emulate interfacial structure the interface structure is generated and the electronic geometry is decided by the first-principle molecular dynamics simulation with the earth simulator. The amorphous interface structure is made by medium-scale model of about 400 atoms. The heating temperature is 4000K, the heating time is 3.0ps, the speed of rapid cooling is -1000K/ps, and SiC movable layers in the interface are assumed to be 4 layers. In temperature 2200K the terminal was opened to make the layer more amorphous. The model has almost abrupt interface, however, some defects energy levels were still observed in the band gap. The energy levels are originated from interfacial oxygen. The localized electronic distribution of the dangling bond causes defect energy levels.

The RCS(rapid cycling synchrotron) of J-PARC(Japan proton accelerator research complex) acts as an injector to the main ring as well as a high-power beam for the spallation neutron source at a repetition rate of 25 Hz, where at present the injection and the extraction beam energy are chosen to be 0.181 GeV and 3.0 GeV, respectively. The present work concerns on the present design and calculations for the injection-dump line of the RCS, which includes, (1) an accurate aperture list of all elements taking into account a wide range of the betatron tune, effect of changing injection modes, multiple trajectories of different particles after the charge-exchange foil(like H0 from the H- and H- beam itself)and (2) an accurate estimation of the uncontrolled beam losses especially from the H0-excited states, multiple coulomb scattering at the charge-exchange foil and also the lorentz stripping loss at the septum magnets so as to optimize them concerning mainly the radiation issues as well as for the hands-on maintenance.

The average size of He bubbles in the CVI SiC matrix decreases with increasing concentration of implanted H ions. Moreover, the number density of He bubbles increases with increasing irradiation temperature and amount of implanted H. At the irradiation temperature of 1000 C, He bubbles were mainly formed at grain boundary within the matrix. On the other hand, He bubbles were formed both at grain boundaries and within grains at the irradiation temperature of 1300 C. The average size of He bubbles at grain boundaries was much larger than within the grain. The average size of He bubbles in the fiber was smaller than that in the matrix in all cases.
