These benchmarks cover a wide variety of core concepts including homogeneous and heterogeneous configurations, clean and engineering-mockup cores of 600-1,000 MW(electric)-class sizes, and various kinds of core parameters. Detailed experimental information has recently been dug out from the ANL original documents and scrutinized very carefully to establish the benchmark model and to evaluate the experimental uncertainty quantitatively. The benchmarks supply users with the heterogeneous cell model and three-dimensional core configuration with preserving the important physical features of the ZPPR cores. Further, the benchmark handbook includes the as-built information of the ZPPR cores as a complete set of electrical form, therefore, a user can develop his own benchmark model if necessary. The analysis of the benchmark with the latest method demonstrates the usefulness both for the improvement of analytical methods and for the validation of nuclear data.

J-PARC had developed the beam diagnostic devices for the present J-PARC linac and has used them since the operation start. J-PARC linac began the energy upgrade project since 2009 and 21 ACS cavities will be installed. Because the beam parameters are updated due to the project, new beam diagnostic devices are additionally fabricated and the diagnostic devices at the downstream part where the beam energy will be increased up to 400 MeV by ACS cavities should be developed. In this paper, we introduce the development of the beam diagnostic devices for the project and the new developing devices.

Results of the core nuclear analyses show the possibility to recycle FR spent fuel once and to have 1.01 of breeding ratio without radial blanket region, in a case of large FR core with half of loaded fuels are recycled through the simple dry pyrochemical processing. The comparison made among three kinds of recycle fuels, LWR UO spent fuel, LWR MOX spent fuel, and FR spent fuel, has revealed that the recycle fuels, regardless of their starting heavy metal composition, reach an equilibrium state after recycles and that the recycled FR fuel has the lowest radio-activity and about same level of heat generation among the recycle fuels.

Beam commissioning of J-PARC linac has been performed since November 2006. We have wire scanners in order to measure beam profile and perform transverse matching. Four wire scanners are installed at each matching section. We report the result of measurement of beam profile and matching.

The beam commissioning of J-PARC LINAC has been started in November 2006. Beam Position Monitors (BPM's) which had been calibrated on the bench setup with a scanning wire, take beam-based-calibration method in order to enable the beam to pass at the centre of a quadrupole magnet (Q-magnet). The installed BPM's and their calibration methods are described.

We plan to start the beam commissioning of J-PARC linac with reduced energy of 181 MeV in the end of this year. Detailed commissioning strategies for the linac and the succeeding beam transport line, to which we refer as L3BT or Linac-to-3-GeV-synchrotron Beam Transport, will be presented in this talk. The emphasis will be put on the commissioning procedures for two debuncher cavities and a transverse collimator system located in L3BT, because they are key elements in determining the final beam quality at the injection point to the succeeding 3-GeV synchrotron. The unique design and features of the collimator system are also presented.

In the J-PARC LINAC, upgrade of beam diagnostics of LEBT and MEBT is taken. Three beam current monitors and two beam phase monitors are added. In the LEBT and MEBT section, large number of accelerator devices are placed. Therefore to save the space, several modifications are needed, for example, additional monitors need to be welded with each other. Those details of the upgrade of beam diagnostics system are described.

Environmental Impact, which is a newly developed measure in stead of the conventional radio-toxicity, has been evaluated for both the PWR cycle and the FBR cycle in order to clarify what kind of radio-nuclides and how much level of partitioning and transmutation are desirable. Bounding analysis for uncertainty of parameters relevant to radionuclide transport in a repository has also been performed. The evaluated results imply that the targets of partitioning and transmutation can be set; (1)In the case of PWR cycle, the release rate of Np and Am should be controlled under 1 %, in addition to the conventionally assumed release rate of 0.604 % for U and 0.297 % for Pu. (2)In the case of FBR cycle, recovery rate of 99.9 % for all actinide nuclides is appropriate.

Research Evaluation Committee carried out a pre-evaluation of Research and Development of Partitioning and Transmutation Technology of Long-Lived-Nuclides namely, partitioning, nuclear data, reactor physics, fuel, creative transmutation technology, in Aug. 2000. Following results are obtained from the research and development. For example, two extract ant systems, capable of recovering all actinides in spent fuel, were newly nominated in partitioning technology. Also, neutron capture cross sections of 7 nuclides of MA and Fission Products (FP) were determined in nuclear data measurements. Some of those measurements are for the first time in the world. An advanced measurement system of a full solid angle Bi4Ge3O12 detector etc. was developed to measure the energy dependence of the neutron capture cross sections. These achievements in the first phase are summarized in the report to promote the research and development in the second phase effectively.

The J-PARC LINAC requires for fine control of beam position to minimize beam loss. So that BPMs need to be calibrated with the accuracy of about a hundred micro-meters. The accuracy of BPMs are calibrated with the calibration tool and real beam. In this paper, details of these developments around BPMs are to be reported.

The photo neutralization method with Nd:YAG laser for negative hydrogen ions has been expected as an available candidate for the transverse beam profile measurement. The fraction of photo detached electron can also be used for charge exchange procedure to extract very low power proton beam for Transmutation Experimental Facility in J-PARC. The laser system has advantages of maintenance and radiation hardness in high intensity proton accelerators. In order to establish the low power beam extraction system and beam profile monitor, the photo neutralization efficiency must be surveyed in practical beam line with high intensity H beam. In this paper, an experimental set-up and preliminary results of photo neutralization method for intense H beam in J-PARC MEBT1 are described.

A commissioning of the J-PARC linac DTL1 is now under way at KEK. A 30mA H beam was accelerated to 19.7-MeV, and 100% transmission was obtained with a 20-msec-pulse-width and 12.5-Hz-repetition beam. In this paper, present status of the DTL1 commissioning and preliminary results of the commissioning, such as emittance measurements, are presented.

As a joint project of KEK and JAERI, a MW class of high intensity proton accelerator (J-PARC), consisting of Linac, 3 GeV-RCS, 50 GeV-MR, is under construction. For this accelerator, it is required to minimize the beam loss (typically, lower than0.11 W/m at the linac). To achieve the requirement, beam trajectory needs to be controlled with accuracy of some 100 m. The first stage of the acceleration (up to 181 MeV during the first stage of construction) is done by linac. The beam position monitor (BPM) in the linac utilizes 4 stripline pickups (50 ohm) on the beam transportation chamber. In this paper, systematic calibration of the BPM is described.
