A non-destructive and on-line diffusion tracing in Li ionic conductors has been demonstrated. As a tracer, pulsed beam of $$^{8}$$Li was implanted into LiGa. By analyzing the time dependent yield of the $$alpha$$-particles decaying from $$^{8}$$Li, diffusion coefficients were extracted with a high accuracy. The ordering of Li vacancies in the Li-deficient $$beta$$ phase of LiGa was observed for the first time in terms of the Li diffusion.

Authors developed a radiotracer method for diffusion studies in solids. The experimental test was performed by the measurement of the diffusion coefficients of Li in a sample of the compound $$beta$$LiAl using an $$alpha$$-emitting radiotracer of $$^8$$Li(T$$_{1/2}$$ = 0.84 s). It was found that the time-dependent yields of the alpha particles from the diffusing 8Li that was initially implanted in the sample could be used as a measure of the diffusivity of the tracer in a nondestructive way. The method was applied to measure the self-diffusion coefficients of Li in $$beta$$LiGa, and for investigating how the Li diffusion in the Li ionic conductors is affected by the concentration of atomic defects.

[Purpose] We confirmed modified (6000rpm type) centrifugal clarifier happened unstable vibration in the downward rotation on the condition of including undissolved residue after the clarification operation. This report describes the cause of unstable vibration and the measurement results of vibration characteristic after taking countermeasure for vibration decrease. [Method] It was considered that the cause of unstable vibration was four items in the following. (1)Unbalance between damping force of lower bearing damper and vibration force arisen by rotational bowl (2)Effect of feed condition (3)Effect of self-excited vibration on the free surface (4)Effect of frame strength that be set modified. This test is for take countermeasure to each item (1$$sim$$3 item) in the upper items, and for quantitative measure of vibration characteristic (amplitude of rotational bowl and shaft) in the downward rotation on the condition of including undissolved residue after the clarification operation and for select best countermeasure, that is most effective to vibration damping, and does not arise the fall of clarification performance (capture efficiency), the increase of leak rate of feed solution and the fall of sludge washing performance. [Results] (1)We could not confirme vibration damping, compared with spring constant k=9 kgf/cm, damping constant c=20㎏f$$cdot$$s/cm and the former condition (k=600 kgf/cm, c=0.3 kgf$$cdot$$s/cm). (2)In case of countermeasure that operate as balance ring by sludge cohering height on the inside wall of rotational bowl, we could confirm that the amplitude in the downward rotation is about 1/3, the leak rate of feed solution is about 1/6, compared with the case of feed solution 55㎜ in height from the lower plate of rotational bowl and the former condition (25mm in height from the lower plate of rotational bowl). (3)Compared with the case of setting the side baffle plate 150㎜ in height from the lower plate of rotational bowl for decreasing ...

Object: The centrifugal clarifier in the EDF (II) was modified into a higher rotation speed (6000rpm type) one. By conducting performance tests using modified one, its characteristic is compared with the old one and obtained data will be reflected in a machine design which will be equipped in a future plant. Method: A number of tests in connection with mechanical perfomance, clarification performance, sludge washing, etc. have been carried out using the modified one under the cold condition. Result: The following results were obtained. (1)Operation of the clarifier was conducted under the nearly same condition as those of the RETF (Recycling Equipment Test Facility). The results of these tests show that there were no problems on mechanical performance in the clarification operation, but it happened unstable vibration in the downward rotation. Accordingly, for the application of the modified clarifier to the RETF clarification process, it is pointed out to make the vibration characteristics stable in the downward rotation. (2)Concerning clarification performance, though fractional separation efficiency depended on average particle size, it was more than 94% for 0.5$$mu$$m$$phi$$ particle size at rotation speed 6000rpm and feed-rate 100$$ell$$/h. (3)The relations of the leak rate of feed solution and the condition of feed at 6000rpm were confirmed and the optimum feed condition was verified. (4)As compared with the modified one (6000rpm type) and sub-critical typed one(3000rpm type), it was confirmed that the former was superior to the latter with respect to the clarification performance of smaller particle size, but increased with respect to the leak rate of feed solution.

Non-destructive and on-line Li diffusion experiments in Li ionic conductors are conducted using the short-lived $$alpha$$-emitting radiotracer of $$^{8}$$Li. The radiotracers produced as an energetic and pulsed ion beam from TRIAC (Tokai Radioactive Ion Accelerator Complex) are implanted into a structural defect mediated Li ionic conductor of NaTl-type intermetallic compounds $$beta$$-LiGa. The diffusion coefficients obtained for $$beta$$-LiGa with Li content of 43-54 at.% at room temperature are discussed in terms of the interaction between Li-ion and the structural defects in the specimen, compared with the case of $$beta$$-LiAl and $$beta$$-LiIn. The nonlinear Li-content dependency of Li diffusion coefficients for $$beta$$-LiGa suggests that the Li diffusion with Li-deficient region is obstructed by the defect complex composed of vacancies at the Li sites.
