Synthesis, crystal structure and magnetic properties of Yb$$_{8}$$Ag$$_{18.5}$$Al$$_{47.5}$$, Yb$$_{2}$$Pd$$_{2}$$Cd and Yb$$_{1.35}$$Pd$$_2$$Cd$$_{0.65}$$

本論文では以下の3つの新しいYb化合物の合成結果を報告する。本研究では単結晶及び多結晶試料の構造解析により、Yb$$_8$$Ag$$_{18.5}$$Al$$_{47.5}$$(立方晶Yb$$_8$$Cu$$_{17}$$Al$$_{49}$$-型), Yb$$_2$$Pd$$_2$$Cd(立方晶Mo$$_2$$B$$_2$$Fe-型)とYb$$_{1.35}$$Pd$$_2$$Cd$$_{0.65}$$(正方晶MnCu$$_2$$Al-型)の三つの新物質について構造パラメーター等が決定された。Yb$$_8$$Ag$$_{18.5}$$Al$$_{47.5}$$とYb$$_{1.35}$$Pd$$_2$$Cdには等価な2つのYbイオンのサイトがある。磁化・比熱測定の結果から、4f電子と伝導電子の構成効果はYb$$_8$$Ag$$_{18.5}$$Al$$_{47.5}$$において強く、Yb$$_2$$Pd$$_2$$Cdでは弱いことが明らかとなった。さらにYb$$_2$$Pd$$_2$$Cdでは重い電子系的振る舞いが観測された。$$C/T$$の値は1.8Kで600mJ/molK$$^2$$の値になり、電気抵抗は1.4Kから5Kまで温度に対して線型の依存性をする。一方、Yb$$_{1.35}$$Pd$$_2$$Cd$$_{0.65}$$は1.4Kで磁気転移する。

We report the synthesis of three new Yb-based compounds, Yb$$_8$$Ag$$_{18.5}$$Al$$_{47.5}$$, Yb$$_2$$Pd$$_2$$Cd and Yb$$_{1.35}$$Pd$$_2$$Cd$$_{0.65}$$. The crystal symmetry of these compounds has been determined and the complete structural characterisation carried out by single crystal and powder diffraction techniques. The 4f levels of the Yb ions are appreciably hybridised in Yb$$_8$$Ag$$_{18.5}$$Al$$_{47.5}$$ and to a lesser extent in Yb$$_2$$Pd$$_2$$Cd as inferred from the magnetisation and heat capacity data. Signatures of heavy fermion behaviour are observed in the heat capacity data of Yb$$_2$$Pd$$_2$$Cd in which the heat capacity, $$C/T$$, increases at low temperatures attaining a value of 600 mJ/molK$$^2$$ at 1.8 K. The electrical resistivity of Yb$$_2$$Pd$$_2$$Cd follows a linear variation with temperature, $$T$$, between 1.4 and 5K, thus indicating a possible non-Fermi liquid behaviour. In contrast, Yb ions are trivalent in Yb$$_{1.35}$$Pd$$_2$$Cd$$_{0.65}$$ and order magnetically near 1.4 K.
