To help for a better understanding about the mechanism of oxidation reactions of edaravone, the transient absorption spectrum and reactivity of edaravone towards various oxidative radicals ($$^{.}$$OH, N$$_{3}$$$$^{.}$$, Br$$_{2}$$$$^{.-}$$, SO$$_{4}$$$$^{.-}$$, and CCl$$_{3}$$O$$_{2}$$$$^{.}$$) are studied by pulse radiolysis techniques. The spectrum of its reaction with $$^{.}$$OH is quite different from those with the other oxidizing radicals, because the main transient is of OH-adducts for OH reaction while it is of electron-transfer or H-abstraction for the others. The rate constants of the reaction with $$^{.}$$OH, N$$_{3}$$$$^{.}$$, SO$$_{4}$$$$^{.-}$$, and CCl$$_{3}$$O$$_{2}$$$$^{.}$$ are estimated to be 8.7$$times$$10$$^{9}$$, 5.4$$times$$10$$^{9}$$, 6.0$$times$$10$$^{8}$$, and 5.1$$times$$10$$^{8}$$ M$$^{-1}$$s$$^{-1}$$, respectively. Moreover the rate constants of the reaction of some edaravone derivatives with $$^{.}$$OH are estimated.
