A research and development (R&D) study is now in progress on the heavy-ion uniform-beam formation using multipole magnets in TIARA. It is important to evaluate the quality of the uniform beam precisely for the R&D study and future applications. We have been, therefore, developing several techniques to measure the two-dimensional intensity distribution of a large-area ion beam expanded on the target. We here employed Gafchromic radiochromic films. The film, whose color turns blue due to radiation exposure, is widely used for dose evaluation in radiation therapy. It has various advantages such as high resolution, large area, relatively low-dose range. We thus expect that it can be applied to ion beams as well. The coloring response was investigated when the HD-810 and EBT2 films are irradiated with ion beams. It was found that the relative intensity distribution of various ion beams can be measured at practical fluence ranges using Gafchromic films.
