The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of notch interval on plastic collapse strength of the type 304 stainless steel piping and simplify the flaw assessment method of type 304 stainless steel piping subjected to combined tension and bending. Typical loads applied to type 304 stainless steel piping are axial tension due to internal pressure and bending load caused by external forces. Two 90 degree through-wall notches were machined perpendicular to the axial direction of the pipe with interval, $$L$$$$_{rm N}$$, from 1 to 28 mm. The experimental plastic collapse strength of the specimens with single notch and two notches were higher than the theoretical ones of the single notched pipe assumed elastic perfectly plastic body. Therefore, it was clarified that the plastic collapse strengths of type 304 stainless steel pipes with two notches perpendicular to the pipe axis can be evaluated safely using the theoretical ones of the single notched pipe assumed elastic perfectly plastic body.
