福島第一原子力発電所では、東日本大震災に伴い、使用済燃料プールを冷却するために海水の注入が行われた。海水に浸漬された燃料集合体の健全性評価に資するため、本試験では、これまでに実施してきたジルカロイ-2燃料被覆管の浸漬試験について追加試験し、リング引張試験及び組織観察を実施することで浸漬時間に対する腐食挙動や強度特性変化の傾向を把握することとした。

In the accident on Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant, the spent fuel pool was cooled by sea water. To investigate soundness evaluation of fuel assemblies in the pool, immersion tests were conducted for irradiated zircaloy-2 cladding tubes and the results were reported in 2013 Fall Meeting of Atomic Energy Society of Japan. In this report, the same tests were performed in the more corrosive conditions of artificial sea water concentration and extended immersion time, and the influence of artificial sea water concentration on corrosion behavior and tensile properties of Zircaloy-2 cladding tubes were evaluated.
