Research on alpha particles in the stagnant water of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

福島第一原子力発電所の滞留水に含まれるアルファ核種含有粒子に関する研究

福島第一原子力発電所(1F)廃炉作業の一環として、原子炉建屋に存在する滞留水の処理が進められている。我々のグループでは、滞留水処理を安全かつ円滑に行うために必要な$$alpha$$核種の存在形態の把握を目的に、2号機トーラス室の滞留水に含まれる粒子状$$alpha$$核種の粒子サイズや化学形態等の分析・調査を行った。SEM-EDXや$$alpha$$トラック法を用いて$$alpha$$核種を多く含む粒子を検出した結果、Uは数百nmから数$$mu$$m程度の粒子状で、その他の$$alpha$$核種(Pu, Am, Cm)は鉄酸化物粒子上に多く分布することを明らかになった。得られた$$alpha$$核種の存在形態は、滞留水からの$$alpha$$核種を含む粒子を除去するための浄化装置の設計に用いられている。

As one of decommissioning process of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, treatment of stagnant water in the reactor building is now in progress. Our group investigated the particle size and chemical form of particulate $$alpha$$-nuclides in the stagnant water in the torus room of Unit 2 to understand the morphology of $$alpha$$-nuclides for the safe treatment of the stagnant water. The analysis of particles with $$alpha$$-nuclides by SEM-EDX and alpha-track detection revealed that U was in the form of particles ranging from several hundred nm to several $$mu$$m, while other $$alpha$$-nuclides (Pu, Am, Cm) were distributed on iron oxide particles. The information of morphology of the $$alpha$$-nuclides was used in the design of a purification system to remove particles containing $$alpha$$-nuclides from the stagnant water.
