Single crystal samples of EuCu and EuAu have been successfully prepared. Using those samples, magnetic and electronic anisotropy has been clarified. Magnetic moment in the ferromagnetic state points to the hexagonal -axis for both compounds. Electronic anisotropy was found in both electrical resistivity and Fermi surface topology. These anisotropic characteristics are accounted for by the unique hexagonal structure.

Single crystals of EuCuSi have been grown by the flux method and Bridgman method. The Eu ions of the Bridgman-grown crystal are nearly trivalent and fluctuate depending on the temperature. On the other hand, the Eu ions of flux-grown sample are divalent and thermally stable and show spin-glass behavior at low temperatures. Crystallographic analyses identified random replacement of Cu sites by Si only for the flux-grown samples. Such structural randomness leads to spin-glass features.

Ferromagnetic ordering of EuCuP is investigated on a single crystal sample grown from tin flux. Application of hydrostatic pressure up to 8 GPa stabilizes ferromagnetic ordering, suggesting divalent Eu is stable. The Hall effect and resistivity measurements show that EuCuP is a low-carrier ferromagnetic metal with a characteristic resistivity cusp appearing at the ferromagnetic transition temperature.

Effects of magnetic field and pressure on the Kondo-like behavior in the valence-fluctuating antiferromagnetic compound EuPtSi were studied using single-crystalline samples. Anomalous features in EuPtSi are due to valence fluctuation and/or valence change of the Eu ions at low temperatures.

Superconducting characteristics and Fermi surfaces of ZrCo are experimentally studied on a single crystal sample grown by Bridgman technique. Thermodynamic quantities in the superconducting state such as specific heat and magnetization show deviation from a single-gap the BCS model and can be attributed on the band structure with the dominant contribution of Zr-4 and Co-3 components.

Fermi surface properties of illuminate NiSbS and PbBiSe have been clarified by de Haas-van Alphen effect, resistivity and specific heat measurements. Fermi surfaces were found to split into two, reflecting the non-centrosymmetric crystal structure. The splitting energies have been estimated experimentally. Those are originated from spin-orbit interactions.

Magnetic phase diagram of two heavy fermion metamagnets UIrZn and UCoZn is investigated. UIrZn shows a reconstruction of the electronic states across the metamagnetic crossover. However, UCoZn shows a rather continuous evolution. The remarkable difference in both compounds can be accounted for by different degree of hybridization between 5 and ligand electrons.

YbCoZn has a heavy-fermion ground state with an enormously large Sommerfeld coefficient of 8 J/molK, and that is sensitive to external fields. Whereas pressure induces antiferromagnetic order, magnetic field induces metamagnetic transitions around 0.5 T, and new ordered state appears above 6 T for . In order to get insights into electronic states and its magnetic field response, neutron scattering experiments on single crystalline samples were carried. In a field-induced phase, magnetic reflections were successfully observed, which has a different propagation vector to that of pressure induced phase. Inelastic neutron scattering probes a crystal-field excitation at a low excitation energy which overlaps to quasielastic response. The results suggest degenerated energy scale, and that leads to variety of external response in YbCoZn.

Two europium compounds with the same structure EuGa and EuAl have been investigated. The Fermi surfaces revealed experimentally show a peculiar feature: flat Fermi surface sheets appear parallel to the tetragonal planes. Reflecting this, a charge density wave transition due to the nesting of Fermi surface sheets has been observed in EuAl.

Transport properties of UTZn (T: Co, Ir) have been investigated by measuring Hall effect. Overall behavior is explained by the skew scattering on the impurity model at high temperatures and the periodic Anderson model at low temperatures. Rather complicated behavior was observed in UIrZn with ferromagnetic instability, implying the electronic modification under magnetic field.

The effect of magnetic field on the static and dynamic spin correlations in the non-centrosymmetric heavy-fermion superconductor CePtSi was investigated by neutron scattering. The application of a magnetic field B increases the antiferromagnetic (AFM) peak intensity. This increase depends strongly on the field direction: for the intensity increases by a factor of 4.6 at a field of 6.6T, which corresponds to more than a doubling of the AFM moment, while the moment increases by only 10% for at 5T. This is in strong contrast to the inelastic response near the antiferromagnetic ordering vector, where no marked field variations are observed for up to 3.8T. The results reveal that the AFM state in CePtSi, which coexists with superconductivity, is distinctly different from other unconventional superconductors.

Fermi surfaces and magnetic properties of an antiferromagnet EuBi were investigated on a flux-grown single crystal. A critical magnetic field of 225 kOe where the magnetic moments are forced to align ferromagnetically was well explained by the magnetic exchange interaction based on a two-sublattice model. The Fermi surface characteristics are in agreement with the theoretical prediction indicating a fully magnetic divalent state in Eu atoms.

High quality single crystals of EuGa have been grown from Ga flux. Electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, high-field magnetization, specific heat, thermoelectric power and de Haas-van Alphen effect were investigated. Antiferromagnetic transition due to divalent Eu atoms were observed at 16.5 K. A charge density wave transition was also found under high pressure accompanied by a Fermi surface reconstruction. These observations were fully accounted for by the Fermi surface topology and corresponding band calculations.
