By the precise imaging optics and double time fiducial system having been installed, the lateral resolution on the sample surface and the precision of the temporal synchronization between the SXRL and Ti:Sapphire laser pulses were improved to be 700 nm and 2 ps, respectively. By using this system, the initial stage (before 200 ps) of the ablation process of the Pt surface pumped by 80 fs Ti:Sapphire laser pulse was observed by the comparison between the soft X-ray reflective image and interferogram. We have succeeded in the direct observation of the unique ablation process around the ablation threshold such as the rapid increase of the surface roughness and surface vibration.

We have succeeded in simultaneous observation of the ablation front and the expansion front with thin filmy structure in the femto-second laser ablation process of a gold target by using the 13.9 nm soft X-ray probe (incident angle to the sample 70 deg) with soft X-ray interferometer. The dependence on the laser local fluence and materials was obtained by the comparison between gold and tungsten.

To avoid the timing error due to the jitter, we adopted a posteriori correction technique by simultaneous measurement of timing between the pump and probe pulses for every single shot, using a soft X-ray streak camera. A clear difference was found in the temporal behavior of the dynamical response of the soft X-ray reflectivity depending on the irradiated laser fluence in these three materials. On the other hand, the narrow dark rings were found in Pt and W, while an additional bright ring was found outside the dark disk in Au. Our result gives the experimental data comparable with various numerical simulations.

The pumping laser used for ablation was a Ti: Sapphire laser pulse with the duration of 80 fs pulse at a central wavelength of 795 nm, and had a gaussian spatial profile. By using the X-ray imaging technique, the time resolved image of nano-scaled ablation dynamics of the platinum and the gold pumped by a femtosecond laser pulse was obtained.

We have already evaluated the data of neutron production for thick targets, in which the incident heavy ions completely stop, by the measurements and the reevaluation of the existing data reported by Kurosawa et al. As a next step of the research, we plan to evaluate the neutron-production cross-section data for thin targets. These data are useful to understand the mechanism of heavy-ion interaction, and improve the reaction model in particle transport codes. The previously reported cross-section data by Iwata et al. were revised by using a new set of neutron-detection efficiency values calculated with SCINFUL-QMD code. While the original data gave the larger values than the predictions of particle transport codes above 200 MeV due to the underestimation of the efficiencies, it was improved by this revision. In addition, we have started the new cross-section measurements at HIMAC. All the data of neutron-production cross sections were compared with the predictions of particle transport codes.

By use of a detection system specialized for low-energy neutrons, the cross sections were obtained in a wide energy region from several hundred MeV down to 0.6 MeV for the oxygen-ion incidences. The experimental data were compared with the calculation results using the Monte-Carlo simulation code, PHITS. The PHITS results gave an overall agreement with the measured data within a factor of two.

J-PARC is a large scale facility of the proton accelerators for the multi-purpose of scientific researches in Japan. This facility consists of three accelerators and three experimental stations. Now, J-PARC is under construction, and LINAC is operated for one year, 3GeV synchrotron has just started the commissioning in this October the 1st. The completion of this facility will be next summer. The control system of accelerators established fundamental performance for the initial commissioning. The most important requirement to the control system of this facility is to minimize the activation of accelerator devices. In this paper, we show that the performances of each layer of this control system have been achieved in the initial stage.

It is expected that the demand for NTD-Si increases rapidly because of recent productive increase of hybrid-cars. In order to meet the demand, we have investigated the expansion technology of the NTD-Si productivity using the JRR3. This report describes the production of equipment for the external cooling device while proposed as one of the result of the investigation for the JRR-3 uniformity irradiation equipment. After an ingot was irradiated once, it is turned over manually and irradiated again in order irradiate the ingot uniformly. With the conventional equipment, it was necessary to wait the radioactivity of ingot decrease less than the permissible level with holding the ingot in the irradiation equipment. It was effective to shorten the waiting period by using an external cooling device for production increase of NTD-Si. It is expected that the productivity of NTD-Si will be increased by using the external cooling device.

Femtosecond laser ablation processes on gold and tungsten were observed by the single shot pump and probe imaging using a soft X-ray laser probe. A clear difference was found in the temporal behavior of the dynamical response of the soft X-ray reflectivity depending on the irradiated laser fluence in two materials. The duration of the femtosecond laser ablation on the tungsten is shorter than the gold case and the narrow dark rings around the crater position were found in the tungsten case. Our experimental data lead to better understanding of the initial process of the laser ablation dynamics.
