光核反応は原子核構造の観点からも応用の観点からも重要であるにも関わらず、その反応断面積は未だに不定性が大きい。近年、超高エネルギー宇宙線の起源を探るために、鉄よりも軽い原子核の光核反応断面積を正確に知る必要が指摘されている。この状況を打破するため、原子核物理の実験、理論、宇宙物理の共同研究となるPANDORAプロジェクトが始まった。本論文はその計画の概要をまとめたものである。原子核実験ではRCNP、iThembaによる仮想光子実験とELI-NPによる実光子実験などが計画されている。原子核理論では、乱雑位相近似計算、相対論的平均場理論、反対称化分子動力学、大規模殻模型計算などが計画されている。これらで得られた信頼性の高い光核反応データベースと宇宙線伝搬コードを組み合わせ、超高エネルギー宇宙線の起源の解明に挑む。

$$beta$$-delayed neutron spectroscopy of $$^{133}$$In

Nuclei in the vicinity of doubly magic nuclei away from the line of $$beta$$ stability provide a tremendous testing ground to study the evolution of nuclear shell structure as a function of the unbalance between proton and neutron numbers. The decay $$^{133}$$In (Z=49, N=83), just one proton below and one neutron above doubly magic $$^{132}$$Sn, were studied at the ISOLDE Decay Station. Using the RILIS laser ion source, separate measurements of the 9/2$$^+$$ ground state and 1/2$$^-$$ isomer were carried out. With the use of $$beta$$-delayed neutron and $$gamma$$-ray spectroscopy, the decay strengths above the neutron separation energy were quantified for the first time. The spins and parities to the neutron-unbound states based were assigned based on the $$beta$$-decay selection rules, the log ft values, and systematics. The experimental findings greatly extend the current knowledge of the $$^{133}$$In decay from previous works, providing the $$beta$$-strength distribution southeast of $$^{132}$$Sn.

We report our coordinated efforts to address these data needs such as radiation shielding design and radiation transport analyses, and present the results of the new evaluations of more than 200 nuclides included in the new updated IAEA Photonuclear Data Library, where the photon energy goes up to 200 MeV. We discuss the new assessment method and make recommendations to the user community in cases where the experimental data are discrepant and the assessments disagree. In addition, in the absence of experimental data, we present model predictions for photon-induced reaction cross section on nuclides of potential interest to medical radioisotope production.

Reference database for photon strength functions

We report on a coordinated and systematic effort to compile and assess all the existing experimental data on photon strength functions extracted from photoabsorption cross sections in the region of the Giant Dipole Resonance and from neutron-, photon- and charged-particle-induced reactions at energies around or below the neutron separation energy. We also present global empirical and microscopic models that describe the photon strength function in the entire photon energy region and reproduce reasonably well most of the existing experimental data. Finally, we recommend photon strength functions for use in basic sciences and applications. The compilation of experimental photon strengths as well as the recommended model calculations are readily available to the user community from a dedicated database hosted at the IAEA.

ミシガン州立大学の超伝導サイクロトロン研究所にて、不安定核$$^{32}$$MgビームをBe標的に当てることによって$$^{30}$$Neが生成される断面積を測定し、その脱励起$$gamma$$線を測定した。$$^{30}$$Neの4$$^+$$と見られる状態を初めて観測するとともに、その断面積から、$$^{30}$$Neの核構造の情報を引き出した。この領域で標準的な核構造計算である、SDPF-M相互作用を用いたモンテカルロ殻模型計算による分光学的因子をグラウバー模型に代入して包括的断面積を計算したところ、実験値を過大評価した。核構造の観点からその原因について考察したところ、$$^{30}$$Ne核では従来考えられてきたよりも4粒子4空孔励起の侵入者配位が多く、それによって$$^{30}$$Neと$$^{32}$$Mgの中性子部分の波動関数との重なりが小さいためであると結論づけた。この増大した4粒子4空孔励起のアイデアは、フッ素同位体において中性子ドリップ線が著しく延びる現象も説明することができる。

A Compact, permanent-magnet electron-beam ion trap for use at a synchrotron radiation or free-electron laser beamline

To enable widespread use of electron beam ion traps, a new compact electron-beam ion trap (EBIT) using NdFeB permanent magnets has been designed and constructed. The magnetic field at the centre of the trap is around 0.7 T, and operation with several milliamps of current at energies of a few keV has been demonstrated. For optimal use at a lightsource an off-axis electron gun has been designed and is currently under construction. A design using in-vacuum pole-pieces is currently being built at SPring-8, which will offer field strengths of up to 1.2 T.

In an EBIT, an electron beam is compressed by a strong magnetic field. Usually the field is generated by superconducting magnet coils. To ease operation we introduce a novel magnetic design based on permanent magnets for a 0.74 tesla EBIT. An open trap design offers a large solid angle access to the trap centre. Our EBIT is intended to serve as a reliable source for HCIs. Additionally a new off-axis gun is under construction, to be used at synchrotron and free-electron laser light sources for energy calibration by spectroscopy on HCIs. By using this off-axis gun the photon beam can pass through the EBIT and is available for beamline users. Currently, first experiments with a prototype are carried out regarding trapping an extraction of HCIs.
