Crystallinity in periodic nanostructure surface on Si substrates induced by near- and mid-infrared femtosecond laser irradiation

We evaluated Laser-Induced Periodic Surface Structure (LIPSS) crystal structures using the stress imaging station at BL22XU of JAEA-BL on SPring-8. Crystallization of LIPPS was used different two types laser these are Ti:Sapphire laser (wavelength: 800 nm) and MIR-FEL (mid-infrared free electron laser, wavelength 11.4 $$mu$$m). These lasers are different in the laser pulse structure and the wavelength. We investigated on the effects of formed LIPSS crystallization using different kind of laser. Measured synchrotron X-ray energy is 30 keV and beam size is 20 $$mu$$m. Detector of diffracted X-ray is two-dimensional detector (PILATUS300K, DECTRIS). LIPSS formed using Ti:Sapphire laser has deformed structure with good crystallinity. LIPSS formed using MIR-FEL has dislocation or fault without structural stress. These results show depending on select of laser forming LIPPS structure. These information becomes important a point of the functional application of LIPSS.

Thermally altered subsurface material of asteroid (162173) Ryugu

Here we report observations of Ryugu's subsurface material by the Near-Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS3) on the Hayabusa2 spacecraft. Reflectance spectra of excavated material exhibit a hydroxyl (OH) absorption feature that is slightly stronger and peak-shifted compared with that observed for the surface, indicating that space weathering and/or radiative heating have caused subtle spectral changes in the uppermost surface. However, the strength and shape of the OH feature still suggests that the subsurface material experienced heating above 300 $$^{circ}$$C, similar to the surface. In contrast, thermophysical modeling indicates that radiative heating does not increase the temperature above 200 $$^{circ}$$C at the estimated excavation depth of 1 m, even if the semimajor axis is reduced to 0.344 au. This supports the hypothesis that primary thermal alteration occurred due to radiogenic and/or impact heating on Ryugu's parent body.

Correlation effects among thermal displacements of atoms in KBr

Diffuse neutron scattering measurements have been performed on powder KBr. The oscillatory scheme of the diffuse scattering intensity is explained by the values of correlation effects among thermal displacements of 1st, 2nd and 3rd nearest neighboring atoms which are almost the same as those in other ionic crystals. Force constants among 1st, 2nd and 3rd nearest neighboring atoms are obtained from the correlation effects at 90 K are 0.83 eV/$AA $^{2}$$, 0.50 eV/$AA $^{2}$$ and 0.41 eV/$AA $^{2}$$, respectively.

The oscillatory diffuse scattering intensity of Ge was observed by neutron scattering measurement. The force constants among the first, second and third nearest neighboring atoms in Ge were determined from the values of correlation effects and Debye-Waller temperature parameters. The inter-atomic force constants among the first, second and third nearest neighboring atoms at 80 K in Ge are 363 eV/nm$$^{2}$$, 232 eV/nm$$^{2}$$ and 200 eV/nm$$^{2}$$, respectively.

Correlation effects among thermal displacements of atoms from diffuse neutron scattering measurements

Diffuse neutron scattering intensities from ionic crystals, covalent crystals and metal crystals are analyzed by including the correlation effects among thermal displacements of atoms into the function describing background intensity. The obtained values of correlation effects among first nearest neighboring atoms are 0.7 near room temperature. The values of the correlation effects do not depend much on the type of the crystal binding near room temperature. The values of correlation effects decrease rapidly with the increase of inter-atomic distances. The correlation effects also decrease with the decrease of temperature.

Potential-controlled electrolysis was performed between two aqueous phases containing 0.1 M NaCl across a bilayer lipid membrane in the presence of dipicrylaminate (DPA$$^{-}$$). By use of radioisotope ($$^{22}$$Na), it has been confirmed that Na$$^{+}$$ is transported mainly and that DPA$$^{-}$$ serves as a carrier of Na$$^{+}$$ transport.

A special type of 7 T 240 mm vertical bore cryogen-free superconducting magnet system was developed. The magnet system consists of three sets of coils which are charged separately. A set of sweep coils are located inside of the main coil. The sweep coil produces only $$pm$$0.2 T but is charged and discharged within 10 seconds so as to control electron trajectory. To avoid quench with the rise of the temperature from the large AC loss, this set of coils are wound with Nb$$_{3}$$Sn conductor. This magnet system will contribute to the fast control of the gyrotron oscillation frequency.

Here we report the new features and improvements in our latest release of the H-Invitational Database, a comprehensive annotation resource for human genes and transcripts. H-InvDB, originally developed as an integrated database of the human transcriptome based on extensive annotation of large sets of fulllength cDNA (FLcDNA) clones, now provides annotation for 120 558 human mRNAs extracted from the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (INSD), in addition to 54 978 human FLcDNAs, in the latest release H-InvDB. We mapped those human transcripts onto the human genome sequences (NCBI build 36.1) and determined 34 699 human gene clusters, which could define 34 057 protein-coding and 642 non-protein-coding loci; 858 transcribed loci overlapped with predicted pseudogenes.

We are investigating three-dimensional converging stereotactic radiotherapy for small lung tumors with better dose homogeneity at the target. A computed tomography radiotherapy was simulated with BEAMnrc X-ray energy of 147.5, 200, 300, and 500 kilovoltage system was validated by comparing calculated and measured percentage of depth dose in a water phantom for the energy of 120 and 147.5 kVp. A thorax phantom and CT data from lung tumors compare dose homogeneities of kVp energies with MV energies of 4, 6, and 10 MV. Three non-coplanar arcs of the target were employed. The Monte Carlo dose data format was converted to the XiO RTP format to compare dose homogeneity, differential, and integral dose volume histograms of kVp and MV energies. In terms of dose homogeneity and DVHs, dose distributions at the target of all kVp energies with the thorax phantom were better than MV energies, with mean dose absorption at the ribs of 100%, 85%, 50%, 30% for 147.5, 200, 300, and 500 kVp, respectively. Considering dose distributions and reduction of the enhanced dose absorption at the ribs, a minimum of 500 kVp is suitable for the lung kVp 3DCSRT system.

Gas Cooled Reactor has long history of nuclear development, and High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor (HTGR) has been expected that it can be supply high temperature energy to chemical industry and to power generation from the points of view of the safety, the efficiency, the environment and the economy. The HTGR design is tried to installed passive safety equipment. The current licensing review guideline was made for a Low Water Reactor (LWR) on safety evaluation therefore if it would be directly utilized in the HTGR it needs the special consideration for the HTGR. This paper describes that investigation result of the safety design and the safety evaluation traditions for the HTGR, comparison the safety design and safety evaluation feature for the HTGT with it's the LWR, and reflection for next HTGR based on HTTR operational experiment.

In this study, we evaluate the high accurate elastic wave measurement system at the 500m stage in Mizunami underground research laboratory. We used the sine and pseudo random wave between 0.5 kHz and 20 kHz as source signals and received them by 6 receivers. We observed that the elastic wave became low speed and high attenuation around the zone where the rock classification was lower than surroundings. From this result, we could capture the damaged zone by elastic wave. For the capability of deeper exploration, we need to improve the transmission system.
