The 2015 Symposium on Nuclear Data was held at Ibaraki Quantum Beam Research Center, on November 19 and 20, 2015. The symposium was organized by the Nuclear Data Division of the Atomic Energy Society of Japan in cooperation with Nuclear Science and Engineering Center of Japan Atomic Energy Agency and North Kanto Branch of Atomic Energy Society of Japan. In the symposium, there were two tutorials, "Theory of Few-Body Systems and Recent Topics" and "Use of Covariance Data 2015" and four oral sessions, "Recent Research Topics", "Progress of AIMAC Project", "Present Status of JENDL Evaluated Files", and "Nuclear Data Applications". In addition, recent research progress on experiments, evaluation, benchmark and application was presented in a poster session. Among 99 participants, all presentations and following discussions were very active and fruitful. This report consists of total 46 papers including 13 oral and 33 poster presentations.

The protection quantities, equivalent dose in an organ or tissue and effective dose, were developed by ICRP to allow quantification of the extent of exposure of the human body to ionizing radiation to be used for the implementation of the limitation and optimization principles. The body-related protection quantities are not measurable in practice. Therefore, ICRU developed a set of operational dose quantities for use in radiation measurements for external radiations that provide assessment of the protection quantities. ICRU has examined the rationale for operational quantities taking into account the changes in the definitions of the protection quantities in the ICRP 2007 Recommendations. The committee has investigated a set of alternative definitions for operational quantities different to the existing quantities. The major change in the currently favoured set of quantities is the redefinition of the operational quantities for area monitoring from being based on doses at a point in the ICRU sphere to ones based on particle fluence and the relationship to the protection quantities.

In addition, recent research progress on experiments, evaluation, benchmark and application was presented in a poster session. Among 88 participants, all presentations and following discussions were very active and fruitful. This report consists of total 62 papers including 2 tutorials, 16 oral and 44 poster presentations.

In the Horonobe Underground Research Laboratory, rock mass classification and determination of mechanical properties of rock mass was conducted considering the effect of the density of fractures in the rock mass. In this paper, the authors report the mechanical properties of rock mass detected by plate loading tests and in situ shear tests in the 250 m and 350 m galleries. As a result, the failure criteria based on the result of in situ shear tests provides the most conservative value for the design of support pattern and assessment of stability of the gallery.

The next generation high brightness and high current electron source like a photo cathode, a thermionic cathode, a crystal Diamond electron cathode and others would be expected to realize the next generation ERL (energy recovery linac) based light source and SASE X-ray free-electron laser. The JAERI FEL group has recently started to develop a new crystal Diamond electron cathode technology for high current, high brightness, and long life electron source. In the presentation, we plan to explain and to discuss our strategy and a preliminary experimental measurements of the crystal Diamond cathode, and related Diamond cathode evaluation system.

The sample was subjected to measurements under molecular-beam epitaxy conditions without being transferred another chamber. Several X-ray diffraction patterns were measured with increasing the substrate temperature within the -phase of GaAs(001)- in a constant As flux of 510 Torr. At relatively low temperatures up to 545C, the observed X-ray diffraction patterns agree well to the 2(24) surface. However, a different X-ray diffraction pattern was obtained at 585C, while the periodicity still persited. This change is explained by partial As-dimer desorption which results in a mixture of the 2(24) and 2(24) structures.

Times Cited Count:0 Percentile:0.02(Physics, Fluids & Plasmas)High-energy charge-exchange diagnostics can determine the distribution function of fast atoms produced via the neutralization of hydrogen ions by hydrogen-like impurity ions. Deriving the distribution function requires to know the composition and spatial distribution of the target ions in a plasma. A charge-exchange target forms as a result of the interaction between impurity nuclei and beam atoms. Depending on the arrangement of heating beams with respect to the diagnostics, it is necessary to calculate their trajectories. A model which takes into account elementary processes resulting in the ionization equilibrium of the ions of impurities in a specific tokamak configuration is proposed. The model is applied to the JT-60U plasma. Mechanisms for the formation of charge-exchange atomic flows are considered. The relative contributions of different heating injectors to the charge-exchange flow are estimated. Based on the calculated results, a method is proposed for local measurements of the ion distribution function with a stationary analyzer.

We have tried to measure the power profile in the TRACY supercritical experiment with high accuracy by detecting epithermal neutrons. In order to measure the epithermal neutrons, a cadmium covered U fission chamber was used, and polyethylene, a neutron moderator, was set inside the cadmium to enhance the neutron detection efficiency. In addition, a lead shield was used to reduce the noise current due to gamma-rays. The measured results were compared with the ones using a thermal neutron detector, and it was found that the time delay effect in the thermal neutron detection, which was caused by the flight time of neutrons to reach the detector, distorted the power profile and reduced its peak value. The reduction ratio of peak power was about 4% for the relatively slow power change with the inserted reactivity of 1.5$, but it became over than 40% for the rapid power change with the reactivity of about 3$.
