Single event upsets (SEUs) caused by neutrons is a reliability problem for microelectronic devices in the terrestrial environment. Acceleration tests using white neutron beam provide realistic soft error rates (SERs), but only a few facilities can provide white neutron beam in the world. If single-source irradiation applicable to diverse neutron source can be utilized for the evaluation of the SER in the terrestrial environment, it contributes to solve the shortage of beam time. In this study, we investigated the feasibility of the SER estimation in the terrestrial environment by any one of these measured data with the SEU cross sections obtained by PHITS simulation. It was found that the SERs estimated by our proposed method are within a factor of 2.7 of that estimated by the Weibull function. We also investigated the effect of simplification which reduce the computational cost in simulation to the SER estimation.

Proceedings of 17th International Conference on Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (ICCCBE 2018) (Internet), 8 Pages, 2018/06

This paper presents status of development of the iSRE (integrated system for repository engineering) as a design supporting system that enables rational designing of a geological disposal repository. The complimentary technique of construction information modeling/management (CIM) has been employed for the development of iSRE. CIM uses a shared three dimensional (3D) model of associated data through common data models. In this paper, as a design support system that conforms to the characteristics of information management about engineering technology represented by repetition of design during the disposal project period, we examined and designed the function of the "iSRE", constructed a prototype, and confirmed the function through a trial simulating actual work in the disposal project. As a result, with respect to the functions of DB and IF of the iSRE, we got a prospect that these functions can be the foundation of information management on engineering technology, and development of the prototype of the iSRE and its test run extracted issues for practical use of such system.

Proceedings of 16th International Conference on Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (ICCCBE 2016) (Internet), p.1173 - 1182, 2016/07

The contents of this paper are the goal of the development, design requirements and required functions, the basic structure of iSRE. The main databases of the iSRE could then be designed with an interface to coordinate with external systems and other databases. Some of the databases and the interfaces were trialed and a data model was then built. A scenario of iSRE operation was also created and the applicability of iSRE using a data model was also examined. Thanks to the use of the existing software, the development process could be conducted while solving problems for realistic test cases. The prospect of the development of the iSRE for geological disposal projects was realized and the iSRE was confirmed as being a useful tool for designing a repository.

To integrate the system for evaluation of long-term hydraulic condition in near field of TRU waste disposal, the engineered barrier, which consists of bentonite buffer and cementitious materials, was employed in the series of laboratory tests. On the bentonite buffer, with the aim of investigating of the effect of (i) interlayer cation in bentonite, (ii) content of siliceous sand and (iii) the ionic strength of ground water on its mechanical and hydraulic properties, series of laboratory tests were conducted. The same lot of bentonite was used in the series of tests to obtain consistent data. In addition, the swelling test of the laminated bentonite with caliumization front was conducted for verification of the proposed constitutive model. On cementitious materials, the altered specimen that produced immersing was investigated the water permeation and also characteristics. The hardened cement paste specimens with W/C=40 to 105% were immersed into deionized water and alteration behavior under diffusion condition was investigated.

Single event upset (SEU) induced by secondary cosmic-ray neutrons is one of the causes of non-destructive faults (the so-called soft errors) in microelectronics. We have proposed a method to estimate the terrestrial soft error rates (SERs) based on simulation coupled with one-time neutron irradiation testing which can be applied to various kinds of neutron sources. The validity of our method has been investigated for 65-nm bulk SRAMs with the measured data using various neutron sources. This result will be reviewed on the organized session of the 67th Space Sciences and Technology Conference.
