ITERダイバータの調達において、日本は原子力機構を中心として外側ターゲットの全数を調達する予定である。ITERへの初期装荷分のターゲットでは、最大20MW/mの入熱がある下半分に炭素系複合材料CFC製モノブロックを、熱負荷は低いものの粒子負荷の高い上半分にタングステン製モノブロックを、それぞれ銅合金製冷却管に接合した構造となっている。ITERダイバータ調達予定極は中型の試験体(Qualification Prototype)を製作し、ITER機構が行う調達能力認証試験に合格する必要がある。このQPは実機と同様の製作工程を採用し、使用する材料や工程に対して品質保証システムや非破壊検査工程を適用して製作する。原子力機構では、これまで開発した製作技術を適用しQPを製作し、ITER機構が行う評価試験に合格した。これにより、国内機関としての原子力機構がITERダイバータの調達極として技術的に十分な水準にあるとITER機構より認定された。

JAEA was designated as the domestic agency of Japan (JADA). JADA is going to procure the whole divertor outer vertical target in the ITER divertor. Toward the manufacturing of the outer vertical target components, JADA has extensively conducted the R&D's on the bonding structure with CFC and tungsten armor under close collaboration with ITER Organization (IO). By the integration of the manufacturing technologies, JADA has developed vertical target qualification prototypes (QPs) which incorporate almost every technological feature necessary to manufacture the outer vertical target. A high heat flux testing of the QP has been performed in Efremov institute. The QP has withstood the repetitive heat flux up to 20 MW/m for 1,000 cycles on the CFC armor and up to 5 MW/m for 1,000 cycles on the tungsten armor. Based on this successful result, JADA has been qualified as a party, which has sufficient technical capabilities to proceed the subsequent divertor procurement, by IO.
