In this study, we investigated lethal effects and relationship between LET and RBE for different LET radiation using the freeze-dried cells of the radioresistant bacterium ${it Deinococcus radiodurans}$. The radioresistance of the cells to helium, carbon and neon ion beams were almost equal to that of $$gamma$$-irradiated cells. Unlike other organisms, ${it Deinococcus radiodurans}$ did not show the dependence of LET on RBE at a range of LET from about 0.2 to 441 keV/$$mu$$m. These results suggest that ${it Deinococcus radiodurans}$ could repair the clustered damage effectively.
