Laser-assisted H$$^{-}$$ stripping at the RCS injection energy of 400 MeV is studied. RCS has a capability to achieve further more than the design beam power of 1 MW but lifetime of the stripper foil may be one of the most concerning issue for operation. The present work has been done in the same framework as in the ongoing project for 1 GeV beam at the Spallation neutron Source (SNS) in Oak Ridge and it gives a set of optimum parameters in order to carry out a proof-of-principle (POP) experiment first at 400 MeV. The simulated transverse and longitudinal beam parameters can be adjusted to fit with laser pulse but a laser of 1 MW peak power with wavelength of around 230 nm is required in order to obtain a stripping efficiency of about 95%. A high power laser system is thus a real challenge at this stage.
