The $$^{59}$$Fe(n,$$gamma$$)$$^{60}$$Fe cross section from the surrogate ratio method and its effect on the $$^{60}$$Fe nucleosynthesis

The long-lived $$^{60}$$Fe (with a half-life of 2.62 Myr) is a crucial diagnostic of active nucleosynthesis in the Milky Way galaxy and in supernovae near the solar system. The neutron-capture reaction $$^{59}$$Fe(n,$$gamma$$)$$^{60}$$Fe on $$^{59}$$Fe (half-life=44.5 days) is the key reaction for the production of $$^{60}$$Fe in massive stars. This reaction cross section has been previously constrained by the Coulomb dissociation experiment, which offered partial constraint on the E1 $$gamma$$-ray strength function but a negligible constraint on the M1 and E2 components. In this work, for the first time, we use the surrogate ratio method to experimentally determine the $$^{59}$$Fe(n,$$gamma$$)$$^{60}$$Fe cross sections in which all the components are included. We derived a Maxwellian-averaged cross section of 27.5$$pm$$3.5 mb at $$kT$$ = 30 keV and 13.4$$pm$$1.7 mb at $$kT$$ = 90 keV, roughly 10%-20% higher than previous estimates. We analyzed the impact of our new reaction rates in nucleosynthesis models of massive stars and found that uncertainties in the production of $$^{60}$$Fe from the $$^{59}$$Fe(n,$$gamma$$)$$^{60}$$Fe rate are at most 25$$%$$. We conclude that stellar physics uncertainties now play a major role in the accurate evaluation of the stellar production of $$^{60}$$Fe.

層状ペロブスカイトPrBaCo$$_{2}$$O$$_{5.5}$$は、熱膨張のない複合材料を作るために必要な負の熱膨張(NTE)を示す。NTEは、自発的な磁気秩序と密接に関連していることがわかっていた(磁気体積効果: MVE)。今回、われわれは、PrBaCo$$_{2}$$O$$_{5.5}$$の連続的な磁気体積効果が、本質的には不連続であり、大きな体積を持つ反強磁性絶縁体(AFILV)から、小さな体積をもつ強磁性卑絶縁体(FLISV)への磁気電気的相転移に起因することを明らかにした。また、磁気電気効果(ME)は、温度,キャリアドーピング,静水圧,磁場などの複数の外部刺激に対して高い感度を示した。これは、これまでよく知られている対称性の破れを伴う巨大磁気抵抗やマルチフェロイック効果などのMEとは対照的であり、輝コバルト鉱のMEは同一の結晶構造で起こる。われわれの発見は、MEとNTEを実現するための新しい方法を示しており、それは新しい技術に応用されるかもしれない。

Excited states in $$^{35}$$S were investigated by in-beam $$gamma$$-ray spectroscopy using the $$^{26}$$Mg($$^{18}$$O, 2$$alpha$$1$$n$$) fusion-evaporation reaction. The de-exciting $$gamma$$-rays were measured with germanium detector arrays along with the measurement of evaporated charged particles in a $$4pi$$ segmented Si detector array. The level scheme was extended up to 12470 keV. The obtained level structure is compared with the large-scale shell-model calculations. The possibility of isoscalar-pair excited states is discussed for $$J=(17/2)$$ states with comparison between the experimental and theoretical results.

The $$beta$$ decay of $$^{192}_{75}$$Re$$_{117}$$, which lies near the boundary between the regions of predicted prolate and oblate deformations, has been investigated using the KEK Isotope Separation System (KISS) in RIKEN Nishina Center. The ground state of $$^{192}$$Re has been assigned $$J^{pi}$$ = $$(0^{-})$$ based on the observed $$beta$$ feedings and deduced log$$ft$$ values towards the $$0^{+}$$ and $$2^{+}$$ states in $$^{192}$$Os, which is known as a typical $$gamma$$-soft nucleus. The shape transition from axial symmetry to axial asymmetry in the Re isotopes is discussed from the viewpoint of single-particle structure using the nuclear Skyrme-Hartree-Fock model.

ボロミアン核であり中性子ハロー構造が期待される$$^{17}$$Bに対する($$p$$,$$pn$$)反応実験を行った。断面積の運動量分布を分析することで、$$1s_{1/2}$$$$0d_{5/2}$$軌道の分光学的因子を決定した。驚くべきことに、$$1s_{1/2}$$の分光学的因子は9(2)%と小さいことが明らかになった。この結果は、連続状態を含むdeformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov理論によってよく説明された。本研究の結果によると、現在知られているハロー構造を持つとされる原子核の中で$$^{17}$$Bは$$s$$および$$p$$軌道の成分が最も小さく、$$s$$または$$p$$軌道成分が支配的であることが必ずしもハロー構造の前提条件ではない可能性を示唆している。

Solidification pressure and crystallization age of the ca 5 Ma Shiaidani Granodiorite (Hida Mountain Range, central Japan) are determined based on Al-in-hornblende geobarometry and U-Pb zircon dating. Al-poor patchy replacements developed in amphiboles are common in this granite and petrographic study revealed that the replacements include chloritized biotite and albitic plagioclase. These are probably the hydrothermally recrystallized domains, and should not be used for solidification pressure estimates. Magmatic rim of amphibole is characterized by Si $$<$$ 7.3 a.p.f.u. (AlIV $$>$$ 0.7 a.p.f.u.), and utilized in solidification pressure estimate that yielded 0.17-0.29 GPa. The solidification age of the granite is estimated as ca 5.6-5.2 Ma using U-Pb zircon dating. From these data, the lower limit of an average denudation rate after ca 5.6-5.2 Ma for the area where Shiaidani Granodiorite is exposed is estimated as 0.93-2.5 mm/year.

This review, concerning on findings obtained by detailed field monitoring after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident, covers the initial fallout and vertical movement of radionuclide in the land and forest, and subsequent transport and redistribution through hydrological and geomorphological processes in cropland, urban area, paddy field, and forested area. We discuss the finding of the transport of radionuclides through rivers and new discoveries for hydrological and sediment transport environmental impact in monsoonal regions.

The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) Working Party on International Nuclear Data Evaluation Cooperation (WPEC) was established in 1989 to facilitate collaboration in nuclear data activities. Over its thirty year history, fifty different subgroups have been created to address topics in nearly every aspect of nuclear data, including: experimental measurements, evaluation, validation, model development, quality assurance of databases and the development of software tools. After three decades we will review the status of WPEC, how it integrates other collections and activities organised by the NEA and how it dovetails with the initiatives of the IAEA and other bodies to effectively coordinate international activities in nuclear data.

The nuclide $$^{266}$$Bh was produced in the $$^{248}$$Cm($$^{23}$$Na,5n)$$^{266}$$Bh reaction at beam energies of 125.9, 130.6, and 135.3 MeV. Decay properties of $$^{266}$$Bh were investigated with a rotating wheel apparatus for $$alpha$$ and spontaneous fission (SF) spectrometry under low background conditions attained by a gas-jet transport system coupled to the RIKEN gas-filled recoil ion separator. The half-life of $$^{266}$$Bh was measured to be $$T_{rm 1/2}$$ = 10.0$$^{+2.6}_{-1.7}$$ s. The $$alpha$$-particle energies of $$^{266}$$Bh disperse widely in the range of 8.62 - 9.40 MeV. The maximum production cross section for the $$^{248}$$Cm($$^{23}$$Na,5n)$$^{266}$$Bh reaction was determined to be $$sigma$$ = 57 $$pm$$ 14 pb at 130.6 MeV.

本論文では、核分裂と核融合のための統合評価済み核データファイルのバージョン3.3(JEFF-3.3)について説明する。中性子との反応が重要な核種の$$^{235}$$U, $$^{238}$$U, $$^{239}$$Pu, $$^{241}$$Am, $$^{23}$$Na, $$^{59}$$Ni, Cr, Cu, Zr, Cd, Hf, Au, Pb, Biについて、新しい核データ評価結果を示す。JEFF-3.3には、核分裂収率, 即発核分裂スペクトル, 核分裂平均中性子発生数の新しいデータが含まれる。更に、放射崩壊, 熱中性子散乱, ガンマ線放出, 中性子による放射化, 遅発中性子, 照射損傷に関する新しいデータも含まれている。JEFF-3.3は、TENDLプロジェクトのファイルで補完しており、光子, 陽子, 重陽子, 三重陽子, $$^{3}$$He核, アルファ粒子による反応ライブラリについては、TENDL-2017から採用した。また、不確かさの定量化に対する要求の高まりから、多くの共分散データが新しく追加された。JEFF-3.3を用いた解析の結果と臨界性, 遅発中性子割合, 遮蔽, 崩壊熱に対するベンチマーク実験の結果を比較することにより、JEFF-3.3は幅広い原子核技術の応用分野、特に原子力エネルギーの分野において優れた性能を持っていることが分かった。

理化学研究所RIビームファクトリーにて逆運動学法を使用し、核子当たり168MeVの陽子, 重陽子, 炭素イオン入射による$$^{136}$$Xeのスポレーションおよびフラグメンテーション反応からの同位体生成断面積を測定した。炭素イオンの場合は全運動エネルギーが高くなるため、質量数の小さな同位体の生成断面積が大きくなった。また、今回新たに測定されたデータを以前により高い入射エネルギーで測定されたデータと比較することで、同位体生成断面積の入射エネルギー依存性を調査した。さらに、測定データをPHITS, SPACS, EPAX, DEURACSの計算値と比較した。本研究で測定したデータは、理論計算の良いベンチマークになると考えられる。

The use of Neutron Resonance Transmission Analysis to characterize homogeneous samples not fulfilling good transmission geometry conditions is discussed. Analytical expressions for such samples have been derived and implemented in the resonance shape analysis code REFIT. They were validated by experiments at the time-of-flight facility GELINA using a set of metallic natural copper samples. The expressions were used to derive sample characteristics by a least squares adjustment to experimental transmission data. In addition, the resonance parameters of Cu for energies below 6 keV, which are reported in the literature and recommended in evaluated data libraries, were verified. This research was implemented under the subsidiary for nuclear security promotion of MEXT.

Under the scope of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (1-F) severe accident (SA), Cs retention is of high interest as its impacts Cs distribution, decommissioning and dismantling work of the reactor. To derive consistent and appropriate models for such process, accurate thermodynamic properties of Cs chemisorbed species are required by the SA analysis codes. In particular, for CsFeSiO$$_4$$, a newly identified Cs chemisorbed species under conditions similar to 1-F SA, the thermodynamic data are unknown in literature. We propose in this work the obtention of the fundamental properties of this substance by theoretical approaches. The consistency and appropriateness of derived computational methodology have been investigated by calculating the thermodynamic properties of relatively known Cs-Si-O substances. It was found that our computational methodology provides excellent agreement with literature data lying between 1-4% for the formation energy, 1-5% for standard entropy and heat capacity. The thermodynamic properties of CsFeSiO$$_4$$ in function of temperature have been estimated for the first time using harmonic and quasi-harmonic approximations, values being consistent with both methodologies.


Fine structure in the $$alpha$$ decay of $$^{223}$$U

Fine structure in the $$alpha$$ decay of $$^{223}$$U was observed in the fusion-evaporation reaction $$^{187}$$Re($$^{40}$$Ar,p3n) by using fast digital pulse processing technique. Two $$alpha$$-decay branches of $$^{223}$$U feeding the ground state and 244 keV excited state of $$^{219}$$Th were identified by establishing the decay chain $$^{223}$$U$$rightarrow$$$$^{219}$$Th$$rightarrow$$$$^{215}$$Ra$$rightarrow$$$$^{211}$$Rn. The $$alpha$$-particle energy for the ground-state to ground-state transition of $$^{223}$$U was determined to be 8993(17) keV, 213 keV higher than the previous value, the half-life was updated to be 62$$^{+14}_{-10} mu$$s. Evolution of nuclear structure for $$N$$=131 even-$$Z$$ isotones from Po to U was discussed in the frameworks of nuclear mass and reduced $$alpha$$-decay width, a weakening octupole deformation in the ground state of $$^{223}$$U relative to its lighter isotones $$^{219}$$Ra and $$^{211}$$Th was suggested.
