To quantify the effect of long-term warming on soil heterotrophic respiration (R
) in a forested peatland in northern Hokkaido, Japan, we measured the hourly soil CO
efflux from 2007 to 2022 in three treatments: (1) unwarmed, root invasion prevented; (2) soil warmed by 3
C during snow-free period, root invasion prevented; and (3) control, unwarmed, root invasion allowed. We evaluated the interannual variations in soil CO
efflux, temperature sensitivity of respiration (Q
), and basal respiration rate at 10
C at 5 cm deep (R
). Over the 16 years, the effect of warming on R
(an average increase of 111%, or 35%/
C) was much higher than in most previous studies, attributable to the high soil organic carbon stocks at our site. An average 15% decrease in Q
and a doubling of R
after 3 years suggest a sustained enhancement of microbial basal metabolism. Synergistic effects of functional redundancy of the microbial community, new carbon inputs from litter, and slow release of refractory carbon maintained the enhancement of R
by warming over the long term.

In contrast, its sister compound CeAlSi is devoid of both multi-k order and SAMR. We reveal that both phenomena appear upon 57% Ge substitution in CeAlSi1-xGex and coincide with electronic structure changes that soften the single-ion in-plane anisotropy and enhance Weyl-mediated magnetic interactions. These results unveil a remarkable connection between band topology, electronic transport, and collective magnetism in Weyl semimetals.

One of the major challenges with the development of PEMWE is the PTL/catalyst layer interface passivation, which is commonly alleviated by coating precious metals such as Pt. Herein, we report, for the first time, the usage of polarized neutron imaging (PNI) on a half-half PTL approach to investigate current distribution inside the PTL layer under the influence of Ti passivation under PEMWE operando condition. First, the electrochemical study of PEMWE reveals an obvious advantage of Pt coating in preventing Ti passivation by showing 822 mV less overpotential at 1 A cm
(1.771 V) for the superior sample (Pt-coated PTL) compared to the PEMWE with pristine Ti PTL (2.539 V). Second, it is confirmed that using ex situ electronic and structural characterizations, Ti passivation cannot be recognized, suggesting a temporary passivation process in an operating PEMWE. Employing PNI for operando mapping of the current distribution inside the PEMWE shows that most of the electrical current favors the Pt-coated PTL, perfectly aligned with the results obtained from the high-resolution operando neutron radiography in which around 60% of the produced oxygen was found in the Pt-coated PTL.

Quantum machine learning has the potential to computationally outperform classical machine learning, but it is not yet clear whether it will actually be valuable for practical problems. While some artificial scenarios have shown that certain quantum machine learning techniques may be advantageous compared to their classical counterpart, evidence does not yet suggest that quantum machine learning has surpassed conventional approaches in dealing with standard classical datasets, such as the MNIST dataset. In contrast, dealing with quantum data, such as quantum states or circuits, may be the task where we can benefit from quantum methods. Therefore, it is important to develop practically meaningful quantum datasets for which we expect quantum methods to be superior. In this paper, we propose a machine learning task that is likely to soon arise in the real world: clustering and classification of quantum circuits. We provide a dataset of quantum circuits optimized by the variational quantum eigensolver.

の範囲で観測された。BaSiH
は95
Cまで熱的に安定であり、それ以上ではBaH
とSiに分解する。DFT計算により、直接バンドギャップは2.5eVであることが示された。BaSiH
の発見により、ギガパスカル圧力(10GPa以下)のシリサイドの水素化反応からアクセス可能なヒドリドケイ酸塩の化合物クラスが固まった。BaSiH
の構造的性質は、超伝導ポリハイドライドBaSiH
を予測されるより高い圧力で水素化するための中間体(あるいは前駆体)であることを示唆している。

Md, populated in the reaction
He+
Es, using the rare isotope
Es with a short half-life,
=276 days. The fission of
Md can be interpreted as involving 3 fission modes: an mass-asymmetric mode and two modes of mass-asymmetric fissions, the latter two are manifested by different TKE values. Predominantly symmetric fission was obtained at the excitation energy of 15.0 MeV. By increasing the energy to 18.0 MeV, the asymmetric fission mode dominates. Both such a strong change of fission modes within a small increase of excitation energy and the enhancement of asymmetric split are new phenomena in fission.

However, in-situ neutron diffraction on VCoNi MEA at 15 K reveals that strain hardening is driven solely by rapid dislocation accumulation, without these mechanisms. This results in increased yield strength, strain hardening, and fracture strain. The behavior, explained by the Orowan equation, challenges conventional views on cryogenic strengthening in fcc M/HEAs and highlights the role of dislocation-mediated plasticity at low temperatures.

) in the novel nitridehydride catalyst Ca
CrN
H, by means of variable temperature inelastic neutron scattering (INS) experiments, harmonic phonon calculations, and machine-learning molecular dynamics (MLMD) calculations. The combined analyses of experimental and theoretical data show that the vibrational dynamics of H
are manifested as a broad, asymmetric vibrational band between 80 and 130 meV. Crucially, these modes are polarized along the crystallographic
axis, and their dispersive character reveals significant interactions between neighbouring H
in the material. We find that most H
are surrounded by two other H
and that the H
sites of the studied sample have an occupancy of at least 95%. We argue that this high H
occupancy may be related to the material's high efficiency as a catalyst for ammonia synthesis.

cannot be arbitrarily low and is limited by the minimum thermal conductivity related to phonon dispersions. In this work, we report the liquid-like thermal transport in a well-ordered crystalline CsAg
Te
, which exhibits an extremely low
value of
0.18 Wm
K
. On the basis of first-principles calculations and inelastic neutron scattering measurements, we find that there are lots of low-lying optical phonon modes at
3.1 meV hosting the avoided-crossing behavior with acoustic phonons. These strongly localized modes are accompanied by weakly bound rattling Ag atoms with thermally induced large amplitudes of vibrations. Using the two-channel model, we demonstrate that coupling of the particle-like phonon modes and the heat-carrying wave-like phonons is essential for understanding the low
, which is heavily deviated from the
temperature dependence of the standard Peierls theory. In addition, our analysis indicates that the soft structural framework with liquid-like motions of the fluctuating Ag atoms is the underlying cause that leads to the suppression of the heat conduction in CsAg
Te
. These factors synergistically account for the ultralow
value. Our results demonstrate that the liquid-like heat transfer could indeed exist in a well-ordered crystal.

neutron diffraction at 77 K and 293 K. A significant mechanical mismatch between fine and coarse grains led to an exceptional yield strength of 918 MPa at 293 K, increasing to 1244 MPa at 77 K with a uniform elongation of 34%. This strength-ductility synergy at 77 K is attributed to high dislocation pile-up density, increased planar faults, and martensitic transformation. Compared to homogeneous alloys, HSMs show promise for enhancing cryogenic mechanical performance in medium-/high-entropy alloys.

被引用回数:0 パーセンタイル:0.00(Instruments & Instrumentation)Electrons emitted via field emission during superconducting (SC) radio-frequency (RF) cavity tests at vertical test stands often collide with the iris region inside the cavity, generating X-rays at these locations. In 1.3GHz 9-cell SC RF cavities designed for the International Linear Collider (ILC), stiffener rings located outside the iris region between cells can interfere with X-ray detection, complicating the precise identification of field emission sites. Hence, we developed a high-density strip X-ray mapping systems (sX-map) that can be inserted into the iris region of ILC-type 9-cell SC RF cavities. This sX-map facilitates efficient and accurate detection of X-rays generated near the irises, unaffected by the presence of stiffener rings. The sX-map consisted of 32 sensors per strip, with sensors spaced approximately 10 mm apart. It was deployed in every iris of the 9-cell cavity, using a total of 320 sensors. A multiplexer was employed to facilitate the readout of a large number of detectors using a minimal number of signal lines, connecting the strips inside within the vertical test cryostat. In a vertical test conducted at Jefferson Lab (JLab), we demonstrated the capability of sX-map to detect X-rays despite the presence of a stiffener ring. This paper presents the detailed design of the sX-map and the results from the vertical test at JLab.

-Mn-like, with the magnetic moments confined in alternating (001) planes and pointing toward the
111
direction. Combined with first-principles calculation results, it is shown that the antiferromagnetic order and spin fluctuations help stabilized the fcc phase in CrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloy.

With the rapid technological development of large spallation neutron source facilities, the neutron beam flux obtained has been greatly improved and neutron imaging techniques have been further developed. Due to the limitation of neutron beam flux, conventional neutron imaging techniques require neutron beams with a wide wavelength range to obtain relatively high neutron beam flux conditions. Recently, spallation neutron sources using large proton accelerators have made it possible to obtain high-flux pulsed neutron beams. Energy (wavelength) resolved neutron imaging technique based on the Bragg edge effect (neutron Bragg edge transmission imaging technique) is expected to have a wide range of applications because of its high energy resolution, high spatial resolution, and ability to detect crystallographic information. The basic principle of this technique is briefly introduced. Several applications in the evaluation of residual strain, phase composition, dislocation density, and oriented structure are also reviewed to play an active role in promoting the wider applications of related technique.

For example, electrons with a Dirac dispersion have been intensively studied in electronic systems such as graphene and topological insulators. However, charge is not a prerequisite for Dirac fermions, and the emergence of Dirac fermions without a charge degree of freedom has been theoretically predicted to be realized in Dirac quantum spin liquids. These quasiparticles carry a spin of 1/2 but are charge-neutral and so are called spinons. Here we show that the spin excitations of a kagome antiferromagnet, YCu
(OD)
Br
[Br
(OD)
], are conical with a spin continuum inside, which is consistent with the convolution of two Dirac spinons. The predictions of a Dirac spin liquid model with a spinon velocity obtained from spectral measurements are in agreement with the low-temperature specific heat of the sample. Our results, thus, provide spectral evidence for a Dirac quantum spin liquid state emerging in this kagome lattice antiferromagnet. However, the locations of the conical spin excitations differ from those calculated by the nearest-neighbor Heisenberg model, suggesting the Dirac spinons have an unexpected origin.

Mgはその中間に位置し、両者の状態が近くに存在することで、励起エネルギーの低い
が出現すると理解される。
