加速器駆動核変換システム(ADS: Accelerator-Driven System)の構成要素の一つであるビーム窓の核特性を粒子・重イオン輸送計算コードPHITS及び誘導放射能解析コードDCHAIN-PHITSを用いて評価した。本研究では日本原子力研究開発機構が提案するADSの運転時にビーム窓内部に生成される水素やヘリウム等の量、高エネルギー粒子により引き起こされるビーム窓材の原子弾き出し数、ビーム窓内部の発熱量及び分布を導出した。また、中性子源標的及び冷却材として用いられる鉛ビスマス共晶合金(LBE)中の生成核種、発熱密度及び放射能分布を求めた。ビーム窓解析の結果、300日間のADSの運転によりビーム窓中に最大で約12500appmのH及び1800appmのHeの生成と62.1DPAの損傷が発生することが判明した。一方で、ビーム窓内の最大発熱量は374W/cm$$^3$$であった。LBEの解析では、$$^{206}$$Biや$$^{210}$$Poが崩壊熱及び放射能の支配的な核種であることが判明した。さらに、陽子ビームによるLBE中の発熱はビーム窓下流5cm付近が最大であり、945W/cm$$^3$$であることがわかった。

In situ neutron diffraction during 250 cycles of plastic deformation was performed and the diffraction line profile analysis was performed to qualitatively evaluate the change in the microstructure of austenitic stainless steel during the cyclic deformation. The dislocation density increased with increasing number of cycles until 50 cycles but thereafter decreased. The cycle number corresponding to this maximum point differed depending on whether it was evaluated as the total dislocation density or was deconvoluted into edge and screw dislocation densities. At the initial state, edge dislocations were predominant; however, screw dislocations greatly increased at the first stage of cyclic loading. Afterwards, edge dislocations formed cell walls and screw dislocations annihilated.

The hydrogen behavior in a nuclear containment vessel is one of the significant issues raised when discussing the potential of hydrogen combustion during a severe accident. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a powerful tool for better understanding the turbulence transport behavior of a gas mixture, including hydrogen. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) is a practical-use approach for simulating the averaged gaseous behavior in a large and complicated geometry, such as a nuclear containment vessel; however, some improvements are required. We implemented the dynamic modeling for $$Sc_{t}$$ based on the previous studies into the OpenFOAM ver 2.3.1 package. The experimental data obtained by using a small scale test apparatus at Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) was used to validate the RANS methodology. Moreover, Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) was performed to phenomenologically discuss the interaction behavior. The comparison study indicated that the turbulence production ratio by shear stress and buoyancy force predicted by the RANS with the dynamic modeling for $$Sc_{t}$$ was a better agreement with the LES result, and the gradual decay of the turbulence fluctuation in the stratification was predicted accurately. The time transient of the helium molar fraction in the case with the dynamic modeling was very closed to the VIMES experimental data. The improvement on the RANS accuracy was produced by the accurate prediction of the turbulent mixing region, which was explained with the turbulent helium mass flux in the interaction region. Moreover, the parametric study on the jet velocity indicates the good performance of the RANS with the dynamic modeling for $$Sc_{t}$$ on the slower erosive process. This study concludes that the dynamic modeling for $$Sc_{t}$$ is a useful and practical approach to improve the prediction accuracy.

Compton scattering of a single-energy $$gamma$$-ray results in a one-to-one relationship between the incident and scattered photon energies. This relationship is altered when the incident beam has a definite energy distribution because of the broadening occurring in the energy distribution upon Compton scattering. This broadening causes a change in the spectral density of the Compton-scattered spectra. To restore the spectral density, the energy distribution of the scattered radiation must be manifested as a function of the scattering kinematics. Here, we propose a simple analytic way to calculate the energy spread of the scattered photons in terms of the geometry of the scattering process and the energy spread of the incident photon beam. The predictions of the model agree with measurements of Compton scattering of quasi-monochromatic $$gamma$$-ray beams, carried out at the High Intensity $$gamma$$-ray Source (HI$$gamma$$S) facility, Duke University. As a benchmark of our method, we measured the intensity profile of energy-distributed $$gamma$$-ray beams by direct measurements as well as by Compton scattering. We found that only when the spectral density of the scattered radiation is restored, the measured intensity profile agrees with the actual profile of the incident beam. The proposed method can continuously measure the flux of an energy-distributed $$gamma$$-ray beams in the real time and on a bin-by-bin basis. Such online monitoring of $$gamma$$-ray beams is indispensable for in-beam measurements and applications. 2011年12月から2015年8月の間に、6$$sim$$7チームが参加したin situ$$gamma$$スペクトロメトリ(土壌沈着量評価)の相互比較を福島第一原子力発電所からの放射性物質に汚染された3つのサイトで計5回実施した。放射性セシウム($$^{134}$$Cs and $$^{137}$$Cs)の土壌沈着量 と$$^{40}$$Kの土壌中濃度の各チームによる評価値は、最良でそれぞれ変動係数で5-6%と4-5%以内で一致した。また、$$^{134}$$Cs/$$^{137}$$Cs比は変動係数で1-2%以内で一致した。これらの比較結果はこれまでのマップ事業における沈着量測定精度を保証するものである。また、放射性セシウムがほぼ均一に分布しているある一つのサイトにおいて2つの相互比較方法を実施した。1つは全く同じ地点上で各チームが交替で測定を行うシーケンシャル法、もう一つは半径3m程度以内の狭い範囲に全ての検出器を配置し同時に測定を行う同時測定法である。この両法の相互比較結果を比較したところ、参加チームによる評価値の一致の程度は両法で同程度であった。このような知見を踏まえ、2つの相互比較法の標準手法を提案した。${it in situ}$$$gamma$$スペクトロメトリの信頼性確認のために効果的に活用されることを期待する。

We summarized temporal changes in air dose rates and radionuclide deposition densities over five years in the 80 km zone based on large-scale environmental monitoring data obtained continuously after the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) accident. The air dose rates in environments associated with human lives decreased at a considerably faster rate than expected for radioactive decay. The average air dose rate originating from the radiocesium deposited in the 80 km zone was lower than that predicted from radioactive decay by a factor of 2-3 at five years after the accident. The causes of this rapid reduction were discussed quantitatively considering the characteristics of radiocesium migration in the environment.

Thermophysical properties of stainless steel containing 5 mass%B$$_{4}$$C in the solid phase

This paper describes evaluation results of thermophysical properties of stainless steel (SS) containing 5 mass% boron carbide (B$$_{4}$$C) in its solid phase. First, the authors have synthesized SS-B$$_{4}$$C samples with emphasis on 5 mass%-B$$_{4}$$C and SS using a hot press method and then evaluated its homogeneity in several ways such as chemical composition analysis, metallographic structure observation, and micro X-ray diffraction (XRD). This study also evaluated the density, specific heat and thermal conductivity of the SS-B$$_{4}$$C sample and found that the density becomes lower and the temperature dependence of the density decreased as the temperature rose compared to that of grade type 316L stainless steel (SS316L) used as a reactor material. The specific heat became slightly higher than that of SS316L and showed similar temperature dependence up to 1073 K. Unexpectedly, the thermal conductivity became lower than that of SS316L and showed similar temperature dependence up to 1273 K.


Influence of grating type obstacle on stratification breakup by a vertical jet

At Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), small scale experiment, named VIMES (VIsualization and MEasurement system on stratification behavior) experiment, has been performed since 2014. In this paper, we introduce the influence of grating type obstacle to the VIMES experiment. Two types of grating obstacle were constructed based on the aperture area ratio. The obstacles were placed at the intermediate position between the jet nozzle exit and bottom of the initial stratification. Experimental results showed that the vertical jet was strongly affected by the grating obstacle. Due to the rectifying effect, the radial spreading was suppressed and the velocity magnitude on the jet center line became larger than that in case without the grating obstacle. Meanwhile, due to the resistance effect, the integral momentum flux of the vertical jet was decayed with decrease of the aperture area ratio. It means that in case with the grating obstacle the integral jet penetration strength was decayed, although the local jet penetration to the stratification was stronger than that in case without the grating obstacle. Also, the slower stratification breakup could be observed with decrease of the aperture area ratio, indicating that stratification breakup rate to be discussed in detail considering every possible effect of a jet penetration.

液体金属ナトリウム(Na)は、高い熱伝導等の特性のため高速炉の冷却材として使われてきた。しかしながら、Na漏えい事故時に鋼製ライナーが破損した場合は、Na-コンクリート反応(SCR)が発生する可能性がある。SCRは、Naとコンクリート成分の化学反応に依存して、コンクリート侵食、水素発生するために、Na漏えい事故時に重要な現象の一つである。本研究では、Naとコンクリート粉末を用いて、SCRに関する基礎的な実験を行った。ここでコンクリート粉末は、日本の原子力発電所の構造コンクリートとして一般的に使われるシリカ系コンクリートを粉末化して使用した。反応過程においては、約100$$^{circ}$$C, 300$$^{circ}$$C, 500$$^{circ}$$CでNaの融解、NaOH-SiO$$_{2}$$の反応、Na-H$$_{2}$$O-SiO$$_{2}$$の反応等の温度変化が観察された。特に、500$$^{circ}$$C近傍での激しい反応においては、Na-コンクリート粉末の混合割合$$gammaapprox0.32$$$$836sim853^circ$$Cの温度ピークが観察され、反応熱は$$0.15sim0.23$$kW/gと推定された。反応生成物の主成分は、X線分析からNa$$_{2}$$SiO$$_{3}$$、融点, 密度, 比熱, 熱伝導率, 粘度等の熱物性値は$$x$$Na$$_{2}$$O-$$(1-x)$$SiO$$_{2}$$ ($$xleq 0.5$$)と同程度であることを確認した。


Enhanced magneto-optical Kerr effect at Fe/insulator interfaces

Using density functional theory calculations, we have found an enhanced magneto-optical Kerr effect in Fe/insulator interfaces. The results of our study indicate that interfacial Fe atoms in the Fe films have a lowdimensional nature, which causes the following two effects: (1) The diagonal component $$sigma_{xx}$$ of the optical conductivity decreases dramatically because the hopping integral for electrons between Fe atoms is suppressed by the low dimensionality. (2) The off-diagonal component $$sigma_{xy}$$ of the optical conductivity does not change at low photon energies, but it is enhanced at photon energies around 2 eV, where we obtain enhanced orbital magnetic moments and spin-orbit correlations for the interfacial Fe atoms. A large Kerr angle develops in proportion to the ratio $$sigma_{xy}$$/$$sigma_{xx}$$. Our findings indicate an efficient way to enhance the effect of spin-orbit coupling at metal/insulator interfaces without using heavy elements.

高温下で圧縮ひずみが与えられたGlidCopの転位密度を、放射光を用いたX線プロファイル解析により調べた。転位密度を評価するために、修正ウィリアムソンホールと修正ウォーレン-アベルバッハ法を適用した。その結果、0.011-0.04の圧縮ひずみを有するGlid Copの転位密度は、5.7-8.0$$times$$10$$^{14}$$m$$^{-2}$$であった。

We are designing a large acceptance heavy-ion spectrometer at J-PARC based on a Toroidal magnet to measure hadrons, lepton pairs, and event-by-event fluctuations. We are also designing a closed geometry spectrometer to measure hypernuclei to study weak decays and magnetic moments. In this presentation, the preliminary version of the designed acceleration scheme, as well as the spectrometers and their expected performance and physics results are presented.

We have investigated the gas phase fragmentation dynamics following the core ionisation of 2-deoxy-D-ribose (dR), a major component in the DNA chain. To that aim, we use state-of-the-art ab initio Density Functional Theory-based Molecular Dynamics simulations. The ultrafast dissociation dynamics of the core-ionised biomolecule, prior Auger decay, is first modelled for 10 fs to generate initial configurations (atomic positions and velocities) for the subsequent dynamics of the doubly ionised biomolecule in the ground state. The furanose, linear and pyranose conformations of dR were investigated. We show that fragmentation is relatively independent of the atom struck or of the duration of the core vacancy, but depends rather critically on the molecular orbital removed following Auger decay.

Density stratification in the reactor containment vessel is an important phenomenon on an issue of hydrogen safety. The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has started the ROSA-SA project on containment thermal hydraulics. As a part of the activity, we participated in the third international CFD benchmark exercise (IBE-3) focused on density stratification erosion by a vertical buoyant jet in containment vessel. This paper shows our approach for the IBE-3, focusing on the turbulence transport phenomena in eroding the density stratification and introducing modified turbulence models for improvement of the CFD analyses. For this analysis, we modified the CFD code OpenFOAM by using two turbulence models; the Kato and Launder modification to estimate turbulent kinetic energy production around a stagnation point, and the Katsuki model to consider turbulence damping in density stratification. As a result, the modified code predicted well the experimental data. The importance of turbulence transport modeling is also discussed using the calculation results.

希土類元素を添加したセリアはイオン伝導および電子伝導を有するが、電子伝導に対してイオン伝導の割合が高いセリアは燃料電池用固体電極材として利用される。本研究では、Nd$$_{2}$$O$$_{3}$$を添加したセリアについて、電子伝導を低く抑えるために重要な結晶中の電子伝導経路を特定するため、X線回折実験を実施し、Rietveld解析および最大エントロピー法解析を行った。本材料の結晶構造は基本的に無添加材と同じ構造を有し、CeとNdはランダムに4${it a}$サイトを占有し、酸素は8${it c}$サイトを占有する。また、4${it a}$-8${it c}$と8${it c}$-8${it c}$サイト間に電子の伝導経路が観察された。発表ではこれら結晶構造と電子伝導経路のNd添加量依存性についても議論する予定である。
