細胞レベルの微小領域の微量元素分析が可能にするために、ビーム径0.25mの軽イオンマイクロビーム装置を用いた大気マイクロPIXE分析システムを開発し、単一細胞内の微量元素分布を画像化することに成功した。現在では、医学,生物学,薬学,歯学などの分野で応用が進められている。

In order to make elemental analysis in a minute cell, we developed in-air micro-PIXE analysis system in which light-ion microbeam of diameter 0.25m is used, and the imaging of the trace-element distribution was successfully carried out. This system is widely applied in the fields of medicine, biology, pharmacy, and dentistry.
