被引用回数:1 パーセンタイル:0.00(Materials Science, Multidisciplinary)Antiferromagnetic (AF) order of UPtGa with the ordering temperature = 26 K was investigated by resonant X-ray scattering and neutron diffraction on single crystals. This compound possesses a unique crystal structure in which uranium ions form honeycomb layers and then stacks along the c-axis with slight offset, which gives rise to a stacking disorder. The AF order can be described with the propagation vector of q = (1/6, 1/6, 0) in the hexagonal notation. The ordered magnetic moments orient perpendicular to the honeycomb layers, indicating a collinear spin structure consistent with Ising-like anisotropy. The magnetic reflections are found to be broadened along c indicating that the stacking disorder results in anisotropic correlation lengths. The semiquantitative analysis of neutron diffraction intensity, combined with group theory considerations based on the crystallographic symmetry, suggests a zig-zag type magnetic structure for the AF ground state, in which the AF coupling runs perpendicular to the stacking offset, characterized as q = (1, 0, 0). The realization of the zig-zag magnetic structure implies the presence of frustrating intralayer exchange interactions involving both ferromagnetic (FM) first-neighbor and AF second and third-neighbor interactions in this compound.

ハニカム格子を持つ反強磁性体UPtAlの磁気構造を決定するために中性子散乱実験を行った。UPtAlは=9Kと=26Kで二つの相転移を示す。 の第一相では、=(1/3, 0, 0)の伝搬ベクトルで記述される磁気反射が観測された。のフェーズIIでは、=(1/3, 0, 0)と=(1/2, 0, 0)の磁気反射が観測され、=(1/3, 0, 0)の磁気反射強度は弱いが有限であった。温度依存強度のヒステリシスはでの相転移にまたがって観測され、での転移が1次転移であることを示唆している。

The valence of Ce in this compound is trivalent, in agreement with magnetic susceptibility and XAS spectra. The analysis of EXAFS spectra indicates the formation of a honeycomb lattice rather than the disordered hexagonal structure.

福島原子力発電所の解体作業では、溶融した燃料棒に含まれるホウ素分布を事前に把握することが重要である。溶融燃料棒の模擬試験体を用意し、ホウ素やホウ化物の含有量を調査する研究が行われてきた。本研究では、その一環として中性子を用いたホウ素並びにホウ化物分布の測定技術開発を行った。ホウ素の中性子吸収に伴う即発ガンマ線を測定し、ホウ素量や二次元分布を測定した。また、n(B,)反応における478keV線は、ホウ素の化合状態により、線ピークの幅が変化することが知られている。このことを用い、特に溶融燃料棒周辺に存在することが予測されているZrBやFeBといったホウ化物の識別可能性について調査した。測定はJ-PARC/MLFのANNRI, NOBORU, RADENにて行った。これらの解析結果について報告する。

Since the hardness of fuel debris containing boride from BC pellet in control rod is estimated to be two times higher as that of oxide, such as UO and ZrO, distribution of such boride in the fuel debris formed in the Fukushima-Daiichi Nuclear Power Plants may affect the process of debris cutting and removal. The high neutron absorption of boron may affect the possibility of re-criticality during the process of debris removal. Therefore, boride distribution in fuel debris is regarded as an important issue to be addressed. However, boron tends to have difficult in quantification with conventionally applied methods like EPMA and XPS. In this study, accelerator-driven neutron-imaging system was applied. Since boron is the material for neutron absorption, its sensitivity in terms of neutron penetration through specimens is concerned. To adjust neutron attenuation of a specimen to suit a particular measurement by selecting the neutron energy range, we focused on the energy resolved neutron imaging system RADEN, which utilizes wide energy range from meV to keV. Development of a method to visualize boron distribution using energy-resolved neutrons has been started. In this presentation the authors show the status of the development of a method utilizing energy-resolved neutrons and provide some outcome from its application to the Core Material Melting and Relocation (CMMR)-0 and -2 specimens.

Boron carbide is used as a neutron-absorbing material in Fukushima-Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (1F), producing borides that are twice as hard as oxides (such as UO and ZrO). The high neutron absorption of boron affects the evaluation of re-criticality during the process of debris retrieval. Therefore, it is important not only to determine the presence of boron but also to investigate the distribution of boron inside the material in a non-destructive manner during decommissioning. To address the uncertainties in the core material relocation behavior of boiling water reactor (BWR) during a severe accident (SA), solidified melt specimens of a simulated fuel assembly were prepared by plasma heating. If core material melting and relocation (CMMR) specimens can be used to estimate the B distribution in 1F Unit-3, that will provide valuable information in the decommissioning of 1F. To address this, the authors focused on the energy-resolved neutron imaging system, RADEN, which utilizes a wide energy range, from meV to keV. This is an innovative three-dimensional analysis technology for boride distribution that affects the evaluation of hardness and re-criticality. In the calibration standard samples (ZrB and FeB), there was a good correlation between boron concentration and the energy-dependence of the cross sections of cold and epi-thermal neutrons. In the CMMR specimens, boron distribution was confirmed from the contrast difference between cold and epi-thermal neutrons. In the future, the results of calibration standard samples will be applied to the results of CMMR specimens. With this method, three-dimensional boron distribution will be measured, and the understanding of boride distribution 1F Unit-3 will be improved, which may be reflected in an improved SA code.

Crystal structure and magnetic property of UPtAl is investigated. A single crystal X-ray diffraction experiment identified the hexagonal unit cell with a disordered structure in the uranium containing layer. A series of superstructure reflections were found. They are successfully indexed as (/3 /3 0), however, with a streak along the direction. A layered structure model containing honeycomb arrangement of uranium atoms is proposed. Preliminary magnetization measurements on a polycrystalline sample are also presented.

被引用回数:11 パーセンタイル:46.65(Materials Science, Multidisciplinary)The Fermi surface and band structure of have been studied by angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) with the incident photon energies of = 665-735 eV. Detailed band structure and the three-dimensional shape of the Fermi surface were derived experimentally, and they are quantitatively explained by the band-structure calculation based on the density functional approximation. Comparison of the experimental ARPES spectra of with those of shows that they have considerably different spectral profiles particularly in the energy range of - 1 eV. Some energy bands with their energy dispersions of about 1 eV observed in are missing in the ARPES spectra of measured along the same high symmetry line of Brillouin zone, suggesting that U 5 states form these bands in . The relationship between the ARPES spectra of and is very different from the case between and where their intrinsic difference is limited only in the very vicinity of the Fermi energy. The present result argues that the U 5 electrons in have strong hybridization with ligand states, and essentially have an itinerant character.

The antiferromagnetic transition leads to a formation of a gap on the Fermi surface as demonstrated by a hump in the resistivity behavior as a function of temperature. Hall effect, magnetoresistance and de Haas-van Alphen study consistently demonstrate a small carrier concentration in the antiferromagnetic state suggesting that majority of the Fermi surface vanishes.

On the other hand, Fermi surfaces of URuSi have significantly different characteristics, suggesting an itinerant ground state of 5f electrons.

被引用回数:4 パーセンタイル:31.62(Nuclear Science & Technology)酸化物等の固体材料が水中に添加されると、放射線分解による水素発生が増大することが知られている。本研究では、シビアアクシデント後のデブリが共存する炉水からの水素発生挙動を予測するため、水の線分解による水素発生に対する、ジルコニウム酸化物またはジルカロイ4の酸化生成物の添加効果を調べた。線のエネルギーが水と酸化物に与えられ、それぞれで独立して水素が発生するとした場合の、酸化物の寄与分は水中に共存する重量分率の増加とともに飽和に達する傾向を示し、海水中よりも純水中の方が顕著であった。また、その寄与分は結晶構造や組成によらず、粒子サイズあるいは比表面積に強く依存していることがわかった。

Ru-NQR measurements suggest the relatively close electronic configuration between ThRuSi and URuSi at high temperature. However, significant delocalization was observed in URuSi at low temperatures. Si-NMR experiments on URuSi revealed Ising-like spin fluctuations in the hidden-order state.

In this study, we successfully reveal atomic arrangement and electronic properties of the coherent heterostructure of single-layer graphene and -AlO(0001). In the atomic arrangement analysis of single-layer graphene on -AlO(0001), we observed apparently contradicting results. The in-plane analysis shows that single-layer graphene grows not in the single-crystalline epitaxial manner but in the polycrystalline form with two strongly pronounced preferred orientations. This suggests the relatively weak interfacial interactions to be operative. But, we demonstrate that there exists unusually strong physical interactions between graphene and -AlO(0001), as evidenced by the short vertical distance between graphene and -AlO(0001) surface. The interfacial interactions are shown to be dominated by the electrostatic force involved in the graphene -system and the unsaturated electrons of the topmost O layer of -AlO(0001) rather than the van der Waals interactions. Such feature causes hole doping into graphene, which gives graphene a chance to slide on the -AlO(0001) surface with a small energy barrier despite the strong interfacial interactions.

We successfully observed the quantum oscillation signals from the Fermi surface. The observed Fermi surfaces did not show a significant change in size for the UThRuSi sample. However the enhancement of the cyclotron effective mass demonstrates the hybridization of the 5 states with the conduction bands.

Single crystal samples of a new uranium compound URhIn with the well-known tetragonal HoCoGa-type structure have been grown by the indium flux method. Although this compound is isostructural to a Ga-analogue URhGa, the unit cell volume is significantly larger in URhIn. In contrast to non-magnetic behavior in the isostructural URhGa, URhIn has a magnetic ground state with a magnetic transition at 98 K, indicating a drastic difference in electronic states between these compounds.
