Single crystals of Mn$$_3$$IrSi were grown using Bridgman method. Mn$$_3$$IrSi shows a remarkable increase of the electrical resistivity below antiferromagnetic transition temperature accompanied by a large jump of specific heat.

As a method to determine the resonance frequency, Rabi-oscillation spectroscopy has been developed. In contrast to conventional spectroscopy which draws the resonance curve, Rabi-oscillation spectroscopy fits the time evolution of the Rabi oscillation. By selecting the optimized frequency, it is shown that the precision is twice as good as conventional spectroscopy with a frequency sweep. Furthermore, the data under different conditions can be treated in a unified manner, allowing more efficient measurements for systems consisting of a limited number of short-lived particles produced by accelerators such as muons. We have developed a fitting function that takes into account the spatial distribution of muonium and the spatial distribution of the microwave intensity to apply this method to ground-state muonium hyperfine structure measurements at zero field. It was applied to the actual measurement data, and the resonance frequencies were determined under various conditions. The result of our analysis gives $$nu_{rm HFS}$$ = 4 463 301.61 $$pm$$ 0.71 kHz.

Single crystal samples of EuCu$$_5$$ and EuAu$$_5$$ have been successfully prepared. Using those samples, magnetic and electronic anisotropy has been clarified. Magnetic moment in the ferromagnetic state points to the hexagonal $$c$$-axis for both compounds. Electronic anisotropy was found in both electrical resistivity and Fermi surface topology. These anisotropic characteristics are accounted for by the unique hexagonal structure.

Ferromagnetic ordering of EuCuP is investigated on a single crystal sample grown from tin flux. Application of hydrostatic pressure up to 8 GPa stabilizes ferromagnetic ordering, suggesting divalent Eu is stable. The Hall effect and resistivity measurements show that EuCuP is a low-carrier ferromagnetic metal with a characteristic resistivity cusp appearing at the ferromagnetic transition temperature.

Unique helical magnetic order and field-induced phase in trillium lattice antiferromagnet EuPtSi

Magnetic transitions in chiral antiferromagnet EuPtSi were investigated by means of single crystal neutron diffraction. In the ground state, magnetic peaks emerge at positions represented by $$q_{1}$$=$$(0.2, 0.3, 0)$$. Upon heating, an additional magnetic peak splitting around 2.5 K was uncovered, indicating a presence of a first-order transition with $$q^*_{1}$$=$$(0.2, 0.3, {delta})$$. An half-polarized neutron scattering for polarization parallel to Q reveled that polarization antiparallel to Q has stronger intensity in both magnetic phases. This feature clarifies single chiral character of helical structure with moments normal to the ordering vector in both ordered states. Under vertical magnetic field along [1,1,1] in the $$A$$ phase, magnetic peaks form hexagonal patterns in the equatorial scattering plane around nuclear. An ordering vector $$q_{A}$$ of the $$A$$-phase has the similar size in the periodicity to $$q_{1}$$, and could be a hallmark of a formation of skyrmion lattice in EuPtSi.

ウラン系強磁性超伝導物質UGe$$_2$$, URhGe, UCoGeについて盛んに研究が行われてきた。最近、我々は69個のウラン化合物、7個のネプツニウム化合物、4個のプルトニウム化合物について、スピンゆらぎ理論の適用性を検討した。その結果、アクチノイド5$$f$$電子の遍歴性を示唆する結果が得られた。会議では全強磁性化合物の解析結果と、UGe$$_2$$のスピンのゆらぎパラーメーターの圧力依存を議論する。

We report $$^{29}$$Si and $$^{101}$$Ru NMR measurements on high-quality, single-crystal URu$$_2$$Si$$_2$$ samples with a residual resistivity ratio RRR$$sim$$70. Our results show that the Si and Ru sites exhibit 4-fold electronic symmetry around the $$c$$-axis in the hidden-order state. A previously observed 2-fold contribution of Si NMR linewidth is concluded to be due to extrinsic magnetic centers. Since the U and Si sites are aligned along the $$c$$-axis, we conclude further that the electronic state shows 4-fold symmetry around the U site below the hidden-order transition. From this observed local symmetry, possible space groups for the hidden-order state are $$P4/nnc$$ or $$I4/m$$, based on group theoretical considerations. Since the order vector is considered to be $$Q=(001)$$, the hidden-order state is then found to be $$P4/nnc$$ with rank 5 odd-parity, i.e. electric dotriacontapolar order.


Element-specific observation of the ferromagnetic ordering process in UCoAl via soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism

We have performed soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) experiments on the itinerant-electron metamagnet UCoAl at the U 4$$d$$-5$$f$$ ($$N_mathrm{4, 5}$$) and Co 2$$p$$-3$$d$$ ($$L_mathrm{2, 3}$$) absorption edges in order to investigate the magnetic properties of the U 5$$f$$ and Co 3$$d$$ electrons separately. From the line shape of the XMCD spectrum, it is deduced that the orbital magnetic moment of the Co 3$$d$$ electrons is unusually large. Through the systematic temperature ($$T$$)- and magnetic field ($$H$$)-dependent XMCD measurements, we have obtained two types of the magnetization curve as a function of $$H$$ and $$T$$ (M-H curve and M-T curve, respectively). The metamagnetic transition from a paramagnetic state to a field-induced ferromagnetic state was observed clearly under 15 K at $$H_mathrm{M}$$. The value of the $$H_mathrm{M}$$ and its $$T$$-dependence agree well between the U and Co sites, and the bulk magnetization. Whereas, we have discovered the remarkable differences in the M-H and M-T curves between the U and Co sites. The present findings show clearly that the role of the Co 3$$d$$ electrons should be considered more carefully in order to understand the origin of the magnetic ordering in UCoAl.

Evidence for spin singlet pairing with strong uniaxial anisotropy in URu$$_2$$Si$$_2$$ using nuclear magnetic resonance

In order to identify the spin contribution to superconducting pairing compatible with the so-called "hidden order", $$^{29}$$Si nuclear magnetic resonance measurements have been performed using a high-quality single crystal of URu$$_2$$Si$$_2$$. A clear reduction of the $$^{29}$$Si Knight shift in the superconducting state has been observed under magnetic field applied along the crystalline $$c$$ axis, corresponding to the magnetic easy axis. These results provide direct evidence for the formation of spin-singlet Cooper pairs. Consequently, results indicating a very tiny change of in-plane Knight shift reported previously demonstrate extreme uniaxial anisotropy for the spin susceptibility in the hidden order state.

MuSEUM is an international collaboration aiming at a new precise measurement of the muonium hyperfine structure at J-PARC (Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex). Utilizing its intense pulsed muon beam, we expect a ten-fold improvement for both measurements at high magnetic field and zero magnetic field. We have developed a sophisticated monitoring system, including a beam profile monitor to measure the 3D distribution of muonium atoms to suppress the systematic uncertainty.
