Search of QCD phase transition points in the canonical approach of the NJL model

We study the Lee-Yang zeros in the canonical approach to search phase transition points at finite temperature and density in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model as an effective model of QCD. The canonical approach is a promising method to avoid the sign problem in lattice QCD at finite density. We find that a set of Lee-Yang zeros computed with finite degrees of freedom can be extrapolated to those with infinite degrees of freedom, providing the correct phase transition point. We propose the present method as a useful method for actual lattice simulations for QCD.

Vector and Axial-vector form factors in radiative kaon decay and flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking

We study the vector and axial-vector form factors of radiative kaon decay within the framework of the gauged nonlocal effective chiral action from the instanton vacuum, focusing on the effects of flavor SU(3) symmetry breaking. The general tendency of the results are rather similar to those of radiative pion decays: The nonlocal contributions make the results of the vector form factor increased by about 20%, whereas they reduce those of the axial-vector form factor by almost 50%. Suppressing the prefactors consisting of the kaon mass and the pion decay constant, we scrutinize how the kaon form factors undergo changes as the mass of the strange current quark is varied. Those related to the vector and second axial-vector form factors tend to decrease monotonically as the strange quark mass increases, whereas that for the axial-vector form factor decreases. When $$Kto enugamma$$ decay is considered, both the results of the vector and axial-vector form factors at the zero momentum transfer are in good agreement with the experimental data. The results are also compared with those from chiral perturbation theory to $$p^6$$ order.

Fragment mass distributions from fission of the excited compound nucleus $$^{178}$$Pt have been deduced from the measured fragment velocities. The $$^{178}$$Pt nucleus was created at the JAEA tandem facility in a complete fusion reaction $$^{36}$$Ar+$$^{142}$$Nd, at beam energies of 155, 170 and 180 MeV. The data are indicative of a mixture of the mass-asymmetric and mass-symmetric fission modes associated with higher and lower total kinetic energies of the fragments, respectively. The measured fragment yields are dominated by asymmetric mass splits, with the symmetric mode contributing at the level of $$approx$$ 1/3. This constitutes the first observation of a multimodal fission in the sub-lead region. Most probable experimental fragment-mass split of the asymmetric mode, $$A_{rm L}$$/$$A_{rm H}$$ $$approx$$ 79/99, is well reproduced by nuclear density functional theory using the UNEDF1-HFB and D1S potentials. The symmetric mode is associated by theory with very elongated fission fragments, which is consistent with the observed total kinetic energy/fragment mass correlation.

Measurement of $$^{73}$$Ge(n,$$gamma$$) cross sections and implications for stellar nucleosynthesis

$$^{73}Ge(n,gamma)$$ cross sections were measured at the neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF at CERN up to neutron energies of 300 keV, providing for the first time experimental data above 8 keV. Results indicate that the stellar cross section at $$kT$$ =30 keV is 1.5 to 1.7 times higher than most theoretical predictions. The new cross sections result in a substantial decrease of $$^{73}$$Ge produced in stars, which would explain the low isotopic abundance of $$^{73}$$Ge in the solar system.

The first accurate measurements of the $$alpha$$-decay branching ratio and half-life of the I$$^pi$$=1/2$$^{+}$$ ground state in $$^{181}$$Tl have been made, along with the first determination of the magnetic moments and I=1/2 spin assignments of the ground states in $$^{177,179}$$Au. The results are discussed within the complementary systematics of the reduced $$alpha$$-decay widths and nuclear g factors of low-lying, I$$^pi$$=1/2$$^{+}$$states in the neutron-deficient lead region. The findings shed light on the unexpected hindrance of the 1/2$$^{+}$$ $$rightarrow$$ 1/2$$^{+}$$, $$^{181}$$Tl$$^{g}$$ $$rightarrow$$ $$^{177}$$Au$$^{g}$$ $$alpha$$decay, which is explained by a mixing of $$pi$$3s$$_{1/2}$$and $$pi$$2d$$_{3/2}$$ configurations in $$^{177}$$Au$$^{g}$$, whilst $$^{181}$$Tl$$^{g}$$ remains a near-pure $$pi$$3s$$^{1/2}$$. This conclusion is inferred from the g factor of $$^{177}$$Au$$^{g}$$ which has an intermediate value between those of $$pi$$3s$$_{1/2}$$ and $$pi$$2d$$_{3/2}$$ states. A similar mixed configuration is proposed for the I$$^pi$$=1/2$$^{+}$$ ground state of $$^{179}$$Au. This mixing may provide evidence for triaxial shapes in the ground states in these nuclei.

Low-lying neutron-hole states in $$^{131}$$Sn were populated via the $$^{132}$$Sn(d,t) reaction at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The triton angular distributions were compared to DWBA calculations and revealed spectroscopic factors compatible with a single-hole nature of the states populated. The data permit to determine the spin-orbit splitting of the strongly bound $$d_{3/2}$$ and $$d_{5/2}$$ neutron orbits below the shell gap, which was compared to the splitting of the weakly bound 3$$p$$ and 2$$f$$ orbits above the gap. The comparison revealed a smaller energy splitting of the 3$$p$$ orbits. All splittings were reproduced using Woods-Saxon calculations, and the lower splitting of the 3$$p$$ orbits was explained to arise from the large radial extent of the wavefunction and small value of the amplitude at the surface. This result is important to understand at a fundamental level the spin-orbit interaction, and its effects on neutron-rich nuclei.

GANIL研究所において、$$^{36}$$Sからのフラグメンテーション反応によって中性子過剰核$$^{34}$$Alにおける核異性体である$$1^+$$状態を生成し、その磁気双極子モーメントと電気的四重極モーメント(Qモーメント)をそれぞれ$$beta$$-NMR法および$$beta$$-NQR法を用いて測定した。この状態は中性子数20の殻ギャップを越えて励起したものであり、その性質を実験的に押さえることは、この原子核の周辺で知られている逆転の島(基底状態で既に殻ギャップを越えた励起が起こるとされる原子核の一団)の発現のメカニズムを解明するための有益な情報を与える。測定されたg因子の絶対値は$$1.757pm 0.014$$、Qモーメントの絶対値は38(5)mbとなった。これらの値は、大規模殻模型計算による予言値に近く、模型の高い記述能力を確かめることができた。

By studying the $$beta$$ decay of the radioactive nuclei $$^{72}$$Co and $$^{74}$$Co produced at RIBF, RIKEN, the low-lying excited states in $$^{72,74}$$Ni were studied for the first time up to spin 8$$^+$$. These states originate from the valence neutrons occupying the $$g_{9/2}$$ orbit, and permit to investigate the seniority quantum number. The data reveal that the seniority isomerism of the 8$$^+$$ state disappears, and this phenomenon is explained by comparison with shell model calculations and the influence of spherical doubly-magic $$^{78}$$Ni.

本論文ではcクォークとc反クォークからなるチャーモニウムの基底状態と励起状態の有限温度における振る舞いを調べる。そのためには以前我々の研究グループによって開発された複素Borel和則を最大エントロピーと組み合わせた解析を行う。その結果、チャーモニウムの基底状態と励起状態の融解温度の算出に成功した。QCDによるチャーモニウムの励起状態の算出はこの論文では初めて成功した結果である。

Low-lying states in neutron-rich $$^{81,82.83.84}$$Zn nuclei were measured for the first time via in-beam $$gamma$$-ray spectroscopy at RIKEN. These include the 4$$_1^+$$ to 2$$_1^+$$ in $$^{82}$$Zn and the 2$$_1^+$$ to 0$$_1^+$$ and 4$$_1^+$$ to 2$$_1^+$$ in $$^{84}$$Zn. The reduced E($$2^+$$) energies and increased E(4$$^+$$)/E(2$$^+$$) ratios at $$N$$=52,54 compared to $$^{80}$$Zn attest that the magicity is confined just on the neutron number $$N$$=50 only. The levels observed in $$^{84}$$Zn suggest the onset of deformation towards heavier Zn isotopes. The data were compared to state-of-the-art shell model calculations.

A new high-spin isomer in the neutron-rich nucleus $$^{128}$$Cd was populated in the projectile fission of a $$^{238}$$U beam at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory at RIKEN. A half-life of T$$_{1/2}$$ = 6.3(8) ms was measured for the new state which was tentatively assigned a spin/parity of (15$$^-$$). The isomeric state decays via the emission of a 309-keV $$gamma$$ ray with $$E3$$ multipolarity. The experimental results are compared to shell model calculations performed using state-of-the-art realistic effective interactions and to the neighbouring nucleus $$^{129}$$Cd. The comparison with calculations shows that adjustments of the pairing and multipole parts of the effective interaction derived from the CD-Bonn nucleon-nucleon potential are required in order to describe the properties of nuclei in the region around $$^{132}$$Sn.

理化学研究所のRIBFにて、中性子過剰核$$^{30}$$Neビームを生成し、それを用いた$$^{12}$$C($$^{30}$$Ne, $$^{29}$$Ne+$$gamma$$)$$X$$陽子ノックアウト反応にて$$^{29}$$Neの励起状態を調べた。また、運動量分布も調べることにより、生成された状態のスピン・パリティを推定した。得られた励起準位の構造は、中性子数20が魔法数であると仮定したものとは大きく異なり、この原子核で侵入者配位(殻ギャップを超えて励起した状態)が基底状態および低励起状態が支配的となっていることがわかった。$$sd$$殻と$$pf$$殻の下半分の軌道を取り入れた大規模殻模型計算はこうした準位構造の性質自体は再現するものの、より定量的な一致を得るには$$pf$$殻を完全に取り入れた計算が必要であることがわかった。

The level schemes of neutron-rich isotopes $$^{70}$$Co and $$^{70}$$Ni were populated in the $$beta$$ decay of $$^{70}$$Fe and studied using $$beta$$-delayed $$gamma$$-ray spectroscopy of the $$beta$$ decay, at the RIBF in RIKEN, Japan. The experimental results were compared to state-of-the-art shell-model calculations, and indicate a dominance of prolate deformation in the low-lying states, coexisting with spherical states. The $$beta$$ decay of the $$A=70$$ isobars is shown to progress in accordance to a new type of shell evolution, the so-called Type II, which involves many particle-hole excitations across energy gaps.

The new neutron-deficient nuclei $$^{240}$$Es and $$^{236}$$Bk were synthesised at the gas-filled recoil separator RITU. They were identified by their radioactive decay chains starting from $$^{240}$$Es produced in the fusion-evaporation reaction $$^{209}$$Bi($$^{34}$$S,3n)$$^{240}$$Es. Half-lives of 6(2)s and 22$$^{+13}_{-6}$$s were obtained for $$^{240}$$Es and $$^{236}$$Bk, respectively. Two groups of $$alpha$$ particles with energies $$E_{alpha}$$=8.19(3) MeV and 8.09(3) MeV were unambiguously assigned to $$^{240}$$Es. Electron-capture delayed fission branches with probabilities of 0.16(6) and 0.04(2) were measured for $$^{240}$$Es and $$^{236}$$Bk, respectively. These new data show a continuation of the exponential increase of ECDF probabilities in more neutron-deficient isotopes.

It is shown that the multinucleon transfer reactions is a powerful tool to study fission of exotic neutron-rich actinide nuclei, which cannot be accessed by particle-capture or heavy-ion fusion reactions. In this work, multinucleon transfer channels of the $$^{18}$$O + $$^{232}$$Th reaction are used to study fission of fourteen nuclei $$^{231,232,233,234}$$Th, $$^{232,233,234,235,236}$$Pa, and $$^{234,235,236,237,238}$$U. Identification of fissioning nuclei and of their excitation energy is performed on an event-by-event basis, through the measurement of outgoing ejectile particle in coincidence with fission fragments. Fission fragment mass distributions are measured for each transfer channel, in selected bins of excitation energy. In particular, the mass distributions of $$^{231,234}$$Th and $$^{234,235,236}$$Pa are measured for the first time. Predominantly asymmetric fission is observed at low excitation energies for all studied cases, with a gradual increase of the symmetric mode towards higher excitation energy. The experimental distributions are found to be in general agreement with predictions of the fluctuation-dissipation model.

原子核の準位密度は中性子捕獲反応断面積を支配し、そのため原子力や天体核物理への応用に重要な役割を担っている。この論文では、準位密度を殻模型を用いて現実的かつ精度よく計算する新しい手法を提唱し、その有用性を示した。この手法は、準位密度を複素平面の周回積分に置き換え、その各積分点で現れるオペレータのトレースを確率的に効率良く求めるという発想に基づいている。厳密に固有値分布が得られる系でこの手法の有用性を確かめた後、従来直接的には計算不可能だった$$^{58}$$Niのパリティ依存準位密度を計算した。その結果、$$^{58}$$Niの$$2^+$$$$2^-$$状態の準位密度が低い励起エネルギーでほぼ等しくなるという、これまでの手法では再現できなかった性質を微視的に得ることに初めて成功した。
