We present results of recent laser-driven proton acceleration experiments and laser-plasma diagnostics conducted with the multi-10-TW hybrid OPCPA/Ti:Sapphire laser J-KAREN. Protons with the energies up to 4 MeV have been generated using few-mcm tape and sub-mcm ribbon targets. The plasma diagnostics including measurement of the pulse energy reflected from the target, interferometry, and spectral measurements reveal the complex dependence of the proton generation on the interaction course. In particular, even slight increase of the target reflectivity results in substantial decrease of the maximum proton energy. This provides convenient diagnostics of the laser-plasma interaction in the ion acceleration, harmonics generation, and other laser - solid target interaction experiments.
