Isotopic compositions of fission products in spent nuclear fuel were a valuable data for the storage of spent fuel and the research and development of treatment/disposal of radioactive waste. The amount of neodymium-148 in spent nuclear fuel is reliable indication for evaluation of irradiation history. The isotopic compositions of samarium and gadolinium in high radioactive wastes are referred to the evaluation of environmental impact in geological repositories. However, pretreatment of analysis must be done with complicated chemical separation such as solvent extraction and ion exchange. The enough measurement data of isotopic compositions of lanthanides compared with actinides in spent fuel reprocessing process has not been obtained. In this study, rapid and high sensitive analytical technique based on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) has been developed for the measurement of isotopic compositions of lanthanides in spent fuel reprocessing solutions. HPLC and ICP-MS measurement systems were customized in glove-box for the applied to the radioactive solutions. As real samples, isotopic compositions of lanthanides in high radioactive liquid wastes of the Tokai Reprocessing Plant were measured.
