Adsorption/elution performance of TEHDGA/SiO$$_{2}$$-P for Am/Cm Recovery from genuine HLLW

A two-step extraction chromatography operation with TEHDGA/SiO$$_{2}$$-P and HONTA/SiO$$_{2}$$-P has been developed as MA recovery technology to reduce the volume of vitrified radioactive waste. A column experiment with TEHDGA/SiO$$_{2}$$-P was conducted using a solution based on HLLW from the modified PUREX process of JOYO irradiated fuels. The results confirmed the separation of $$^{241}$$Am, $$^{242}$$Cm, and Nd from $$^{137}$$Cs. The MA and Nd, which were eluted from the column, were mostly recovered. On the other hand, it reveals the insufficient decontamination of Sr. It is suggested that this problem can be mitigated by increasing the column length. This study demonstrates that TEHDGA/SiO$$_{2}$$-P exhibited good performance for MA recovery from HLLW.
