This book chapter introduced the difference in the behavior of radiocesium between Fukushima and Chernobyl. The main factors that cause the difference are geology and soil types. Phyllosilicate minerals that strongly adsorb radiocesium are more abundant in Fukushima area originated from weathered granite. In contrast, high concentration of natural organic matter in Chernobyl area adsorbed on particulate matter inhibits formation of inner-sphere complex of radiocesium to the particulate matter.
