Magnetoelastic anisotropy in Heusler-type Mn$$_{2-delta}$$CoGa$$_{1+delta}$$ films

This study focuses on an inverse-type Heusler alloy, Mn$$_{2-delta}$$CoGa$$_{1+delta}$$ (MCG), with a small off-stoichiometry ($$delta$$), showing perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA). We observed a relatively large uniaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant ($$K_mathrm{u}$$) on the order of 10$$^5$$ J/m$$^3$$ at room temperature in the MCG films with a small tetragonal distortion of a few percent. X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) was employed to get insight into the origin for the PMA. Negligible angular variation of the orbital magnetic moment evaluated using the XMCD spectra suggested a minor role of the so-called Bruno's term to $$K_mathrm{u}$$. The origin of the PMA was discussed based on the second-order perturbation theory in terms of the spin-orbit coupling, and first principles calculations, claiming that the mixing of the occupied $$uparrow$$- and the unoccupied $$downarrow$$-spin states is responsible for the PMA of the MCG films.

Quantum spin fluctuation in a low-dimensional or frustrated magnet breaks magnetic ordering while keeping spin correlation. Such fluctuation has been a central topic in magnetism because of its relevance to high-Tc superconductivity and topological states. However, utilizing such spin states has been quite difficult. In a one-dimensional spin-1/2 chain, a particle-like excitation called a spinon is known to be responsible for spin fluctuation in a paramagnetic state. Spinons behave as a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid at low energy, and the spin system is often called a quantum spin chain. Here we show that a quantum spin chain generates and carries spin current, which is attributed to spinon spin current. This is demonstrated by observing an anisotropic negative spin Seebeck effect along the spin chains in Sr$$_{2}$$CuO$$_{3}$$. The results show that spin current can flow even in an atomic channel owing to long-range spin fluctuation.

We are designing a large acceptance heavy-ion spectrometer at J-PARC based on a Toroidal magnet to measure hadrons, lepton pairs, and event-by-event fluctuations. We are also designing a closed geometry spectrometer to measure hypernuclei to study weak decays and magnetic moments. In this presentation, the preliminary version of the designed acceleration scheme, as well as the spectrometers and their expected performance and physics results are presented.

We developed an X-ray detector system using a 64-pixel silicon avalanche photodiode Si-APD linear array and fast pulse-counting electronics for multichannel scaling. The Si-APD linear array consists of 64 pixels each 0.01$$times$$0.02 cm$$^{2}$$ in size, with a pixel pitch of 0.015 cm and depletion depth of 0.001 cm. The fast electronics, consisting of an ultrafast application-specific integrated circuit and field-programmable gate arrays, can record both the position and timing of X-rays arriving at each pixel of the linear array with 1 ns pulse-pair resolution. The count distribution was measured using 14.4 keV synchrotron X-rays for nuclear resonant forward scattering experiments on $$^{57}$$Fe, and the spatial resolution was improved by inclining the detector. We also successfully measured amorphous alloy Fe$$_{78}$$Si$$_{9}$$B$$_{13}$$ during heating.


Crack growth behavior of F82H steel in the 288$$^{circ}$$C water

き裂成長は、核融合の実証炉用構造材料を設計・評価する上で重要な機械的特性の一つであり、国際核融合材料照射施設(IFMIF)の高中性子束テストモジュール(HFTM)にてき裂成長が評価されることになっている。本研究では、き裂成長に及ぼす試験片の寸法効果を避けるため、ほぼ標準サイズの試験片を用いて288$$^{circ}$$C水中におけるF82H鋼のき裂進展速度を評価した。試験片の破面を観察した結果、288$$^{circ}$$C水中ではなく室温大気中で疲労き裂が進展した領域でも、き裂が粒界を進展した結果の粒界割れ破面を得た。粒界割れ破面が得られる原因の一つは、F82H鋼の粒界に析出したクロム炭化物Cr$$_{23}$$C$$_{6}$$の影響と推測された。また、288$$^{circ}$$C水中で進展したように見えるき裂が観察された。き裂進展速度を保守的に評価した結果、き裂先端の応力場を示すパラメータの応力拡大係数30MPa $$sqrt[]{m}$$において、288$$^{circ}$$C水中のき裂進展速度7$$times$$10$$^{-11}$$m/sを得た。今後は、より系統的な試験の実施と共に、き裂が進展しないような表面処理等の工夫が必要であると考えられる。

Effect of hydrogen on crack growth behavior in F82H steel using small-size specimen

Crack growth is a one of the key mechanical properties of the design evaluation in fusion materials to be tested at the High Flux Test Module (HFTM) in IFMIF. In the IFMIF/EVEDA project under the BA agreement, effect of hydrogen on the crack growth in F82H steel was investigated by using the relatively small size specimen. The shape of an Wedge Opening Load (WOL) specimen is adapted as a miniaturized specimen because the loading mechanism of WOL specimen is relatively simple compared to that of the other notched specimen. The hydrogen charging process was conducted for about 600 hours in the electrolytic solution with the current density of -2 mA/cm$$^{2}$$ at 35$$^{circ}$$C. And then, the testing load, ${it K}$ = 30 MPa$$sqrt{m}$$, was applied to the specimen for about 337 hours at room temperature in air as the crack growth rate test. From these results, the small size specimen used in this study is thought to be adequate to evaluate the effect of hydrogen on the crack behavior in F82H steel.

We developed a silicon avalanche photodiode (Si-APD) linear-array detector for use in nuclear resonant scattering experiments using synchrotron X-rays. The Si-APD linear array consists of 64 pixels (pixel size: 0,01$$times$$0.02 cm$$^{2}$$) with a pixel pitch of 0.015 cm and depletion depth of 0.001 cm. An ultrafast frontend circuit allows the X-ray detector to obtain a high output. High-performance integrated circuits achieve multichannel scaling over 1024 continuous time bins with a 1 ns resolution for each pixel without dead time. The multichannel scaling method enabled us to record a time spectrum of the 14.4 keV nuclear radiation at each pixel with a time resolution of 1.4 ns (FWHM). This method was successfully applied to nuclear forward scattering and nuclear small-angle scattering on $$^{57}$$Fe.


Influence of electron doping on magnetic order in CeRu$$_2$$Al$$_{10}$$

The effect of electron doping by the substitution of Rh for Ru on unconventional magnetic order in CeRu$$_2$$Al$$_{10}$$ was investigated via neutron powder diffraction. In Ce(Ru$$_{1-x}$$Rh$$_x$$)$$_2$$Al$$_{10}$$ with $$x$$ = 0.05, 0.12, 0.2, reorientation of the ordered moment from the $$c$$- to the $$a$$-axis takes place in all samples, while the ordering vector $$q$$ = (0 1 0) remains unchanged within this concentration range. The moment reorientation is accompanied by an enhancement in its size by a factor of 2.4, from $${mu}$$=0.43 $${mu}_B$$ at $$x$$ = 0 to $${mu}$$=1.06, 1.04, and 1.02 $${mu}_B$$ for $$x$$ = 0.05, 0.12 and 0.2, respectively. The continuous decrease in N$'e$el temperature $$T_0$$($$T_N$$), despite an abrupt increase in $${mu}$$, underlines the strong anisotropy in the exchange interaction in CeRu$$_2$$Al$$_{10}$$, and the fact that this anisotropy is easily suppressed by electron doping.


Establishment of production process of JK2LB jacket section for ITER CS

JAEA is in charge of procuring Center Solenoid (CS) conductor in ITER project. CS conductor is Cable-In-Conduit type, and conduit is also called jacket. The cross-sectional shape of CS jacket is circle-in-square type, whose outer dimension is 51.3 mm and inner diameter is 35.3 mm. The length of one CS jacket section is 7 m, and the necessary total length of CS conductor is about 43 km. CS coil is expected to suffer high electro-magnetic force, so JAEA developed JK2LB, which is modified stainless steel expected to better characteristics of fatigue and thermal contraction in 4 K than SUS316LN, in cooperate with Kobe Steel, Ltd. The remaining problem was to establish production process of jackets which satisfy dimensional and mechanical requirement in ITER consistently, and also, Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) by ITER-original criteria. To carry out the R&D for above, production of dummy CS jackets were executed and these jackets were fabricated successfully. The results are reported.

Highly efficient extraction separation of lanthanides using a diglycolamic acid extractant

$$N$$,$$N$$-dioctyldiglycolamic acid (DODGAA) enables the quantitative partitioning of all Ln$$^{3+}$$ ions from moderately acidic solutions, while showing selectivity for heavier lanthanides, and provides remarkably high extraction separation performance for Ln$$^{3+}$$ compared with typical carboxylic acid extractants. Furthermore, the mutual separation abilities of DODGAA for light lanthanides are higher than those of organophosphorus extractants. Slope analysis, loading tests, and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry measurements demonstrated that the transfer of Ln$$^{3+}$$ with DODGAA proceeded through a proton-exchange reaction, forming a 1:3 complex, Ln(DODGAA)$$_{3}$$. The stripping of Ln$$^{3+}$$ from the extracting phase was successfully achieved under acidic conditions. Time-resolved laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy revealed that the extracted Eu$$^{3+}$$ ions were completely dehydrated by complexation with DODGAA.


Development of small specimen test techniques for the IFMIF test cell

Recent progress of small specimen test technique and the engineering design and engineering validation tests of high flux test module (HFTM) for the IFMIF test cell is mainly summarized and evaluated in the IFMIF/EVEDA (Engineering validation and engineering design activities) projects under Broader Approach Agreement between EURATOM and Japan. Effects of specimen size on mechanical properties such as impact properties and ductile-to-brittle transition temperature are known to occur in ferritic/martensitic steels, and some parts of them have been prepared in the guideline and standard of mechanical tests by ASTM-international and ISO. However, our research of ferritic/martensitic steel F82H showed that it did not match with our data, i.e., master curve method for fracture in ductile-to-brittle transition behaviour of F82H steel. Accordingly, we need to modify and develop these standards for the tests including small size specimens of fusion materials in IFMIF. Also, some designs were prepared in the design of HFTM.

200GeVと62.4GeVでの陽子陽子の中心衝突からの$$pi, K, p$$の横運動量分布及び収量をRHICのPHENIX実験によって測定した。それぞれエネルギーでの逆スロープパラメーター、平均横運動量及び単位rapidityあたりの収量を求め、異なるエネルギーでの他の測定結果と比較する。また$$m_T$$$$x_T$$スケーリングのようなスケーリングについて示して陽子陽子衝突における粒子生成メカニズムについて議論する。さらに測定したスペクトルを二次の摂動QCDの計算と比較する。
