Current status of STRAD project for liquid waste management

Japan Atomic Energy Agency is conducting Systematic Treatment of RAdioactive liquid waste for Decommissioning (STRAD) project as collaboration with universities, a national institute and private companies to establish appropriate treatment procedures for radioactive liquid waste which contains reactive or hazardous chemicals and has been accumulated in nuclear facilities. So far, various fundamental studies have been carried out and some of the liquid waste treatment procedures pro-vided were demonstrated using genuine radioactive liquid waste accumulated in a hot laboratory of Japan Atomic Energy Agency called Chemical Processing Facility (CPF). In this paper, recent achievements of the STRAD project are presented.
